Himrod isn't much of a grape in my experience. Of the hardy seedless I've tried, at least 20, Canadice and Glenora were best. I've heard Jupiter is very good. Reliance is better here than Himrod but I'd put Himrod near the bottom of everything. Your mileage may vary.

I'm asking more about the grapes on the vine than the variety, but I guess if you're saying the variety isn't good that would include the year (and every year), LOL.
I would think days from bloom to harvest should be fairly accurate between the two neighboring vines and wondering if (or hoping) maybe Himrod made a mad dash to plump up at the end.
If it doesn't make a mad dash at the end compared to the Reliance and the fact that Reliance is 20 days longer I don't think it has a chance. It's got less than a month "by the book". Reliance has over a month and is starting to look like something.

It won't be a huge loss if the variety is crap. I'll have plenty of others by the time I make that determination, plus it's at the end of the pair that got moved down and over so it's quite a leaner. If it's crap I won't have to worry about whether I should "move" it.

Canadice is one of the red ones I have but I'm not sure how good it's going to do. It took forever to wake up, is growing slow, wilts every day in the heat and perks back up in the evening. I'm thinking it might want a cooler spot.
I like storebought white grapes. No matter how good the Reliance and Candadice are (I'm assuming Flame dies long before bearing) if Himrod doesn't work here I'll still be searching unless Lakemont is the one that produces commercial "quality" in IL. Interlaken is one of the ones I previously tried and never got one to live long. Maybe Neptune or Marquis.

I'll give Himrod more than one year since I bought it locally from nursery that tends to know their stuff.

Yes, the Montmorency has cherry leaf spot again. This time it's on the hot dry side. I think I need to hook it up to an IV drip of Immunox to keep it healthy.
At least it waited until after harvest to shed this year.
I don't know why it's as prone to disease as it is, my last one wasn't this bad. I'm almost hoping it dies.

Himrod has scraggly bunches that shatter badly. In addition the fruit just isn't that good. Maybe it will do better in your climate.

The bunch you show is about par for my experience. The berries will get bigger but not big.

Himrod is a good grape for me in zone 5 with a short growing season and very cold winters.

They do seem to stay small and undeveloped and then a big rush to ripen.

I've got to say, your photos of himrod look like my interlaken and not like my himrod. My himrods have a nice full bunch and end up a pale green color when they are ripe.

I like my canadice the best so far, but it is a pink grape in my growing conditions, not red.

Grapes need a lot of heat to get really sweet, so what I get in zone 5, I call "grapes for grown-ups". They have lovely complex flavor, and sweet enough to eat, but not like the grapes you can get in the central valley of California.

I don't have a reliance to compare. Several new varieties planted this year, but it will be awhile before i can evaluate them.

Good to hear yours make a big rush, so there's still hope.

I'm a bit paranoid because of my parents' vines. Not only did they generally produce small, hard and tough grapes the seedless grapes had those small vestigial seeds. There was simply nothing good about them.

I wish the horses wouldn't have killed them after my horticulture pruned them. It would've been interesting to see if a little care would've changed anything.

I'll bring my pruning shears and a bottle of Round up...we'll get them out of there :) j/k

There don't seem to be many options when it comes to seedless white grapes.

I definitely wouldn't need Round up to get rid of the tree. And since I'd move the next tree a foot or so away from the house not even a shovel.
I'd just hate to lose the evening shade on the house that it's finally big enough to give. Although if it continues shedding all the leaves by August I'll decide the shade could be better.

I'm guessing it will be at least 2 more years before I decide to give the Himrod a death sentence or not.
As far as I know Himrod has commercial value so it has to grow right somewhere.

When I was trying to decide which bunch to pick one fell so I picked most of them.

They got some size to them but nothing impressive. I guess I try some girdling in the future.
They definitely taste better than store bought. Some of the skins are tough which I'm sure has to do with the flyspeck.

Location sure makes a big difference. You are harvesting Himrod right now, I don't expect mine until the end of October.

My immediate next door neighbor gets ripe Canadice a full 6 weeks before I do. I'm in an area well know for its micro-climates.

My Reliance have yet to turn purple, just showing some color now. We've been eating them green because we like them a little tart. I think its because of a 15ft peach tree (seedling) that i let go and now will have to chop next year, which is shading the vine pretty good.

Luckily on one of my grape searches I came across a .edu that had days from bloom to harvest and it was close enough that I remembered when the flowers opened.
I've read a lot saying Reliance July-early August. Mine are good but a little on the hard side. I think they may be earlier than 95 days but not much.

End of October is late apples here and you've probably risked a frost to leave them on. You wouldn't get a grape to stay that long.

Himrod was ripened about a week and a half ago here. The grapes were soft and skin slipped off easily. Ours were better than store-bought but not hugely so.

Himrods in my zone 7 climate produce poorly. They are the first of my table grapes to ripen and the bees perfer them over the purple and red grapes.

About every third year I get a fair harvest. They make excellent raisins. In fact, they make better raisins than the reds such as reliance, vanessa, or canadice.

But, I agree that had I known how much trouble they were to grow here, I would not have bothered.
