Can someone identify my houseplant?

I found it in the garbage, and I want to know how to take proper care of it.

It's a variegated Schefflera arboricola.

A plant that pretty in the garbage -why? I'd check for pests. Maybe they were just moving?

We can probably tell you the genus, possibly the species or hybrid, with a good photo. The best angle is not straight above or directly at the side, but halfway in between. Feel along the edges of the leaves. Do you feel spines? If not, it is probably a Guzmania or Vriesea or possibly a Tillandsia. Send the photo and tell us about the spines - I'll give it my best shot!

It looks a little bit like anthracnose I guess. You can spray with copper, but if you’ve already had fruit from it then you might consider just starting over: heat-treating seeds apparently kills the disease, though planting in a different spot and choosing a resistant variety is probably safer. To be honest, though, it could just as easily be something cultural...

lucky you! great plant..easy to care for.filtered light,water only when somewhat dry. feed 'weekly, weakly'...keep us posted please.

Morning,

Kev, you found a really nice Scheff. It looks healthy, but as Purple suggested, to be on the safe side, check for pests.

People toss plants for different reasons. Some families move, some buy plants for summer, then discard in autumn.

I've seen plants and pots in the alley. Most were purchased for summer gardens or as flowering gift plants. As soon as flowers faded, it went in the trash.
