I loved Beatrix Potter as a child, especially her beautiful illustrations. Maybe you could look at one of the garden and imitate it.

I have been looking through my book and maybe I should put a tea cup and saucer in a little chamomile bed? I'm kind of drawing a blank on how to plant the cucumbers....

Here's what pops into MY head....When I think of Peter Rabbit, I always think of Farmer McGregor. Do you have room for a Farmer McGregor scarecrow?

Some sort of fence with a hole in it big enough for Peter to escape through.

A stash of upturned clay pots like the one my mother always said Peter hid inside to keep away from Farmer McG.

A hoe (child-size)...maybe leaned up against a wall.

You could cut flat board in a shed shape and paint it to look like a potting shed. Cut a hole in it for a window and put an old window frame over the hole. A sign over the door that says "Farmer McGregor's Potting Shed".

Or a sign upon entering the garden that says "Farmer McGregor's Garden, No Rabbits Allowed".

Didn't Peter Rabbit take off his clothes while in the garden? How about a pair of denim baby cover-alls starched up to make a planter?

And, didn't Farmer McG have a cat in one of the Peter stories? How about a cat figurine?

A bean tee pee or maybe even grow your cucumbers and beans together up a tee pee. It's always fun for kids to spend a summer afternoon in a garden tee pee.

Edible flowers would be fun...nasturtiums, Johnny Jump-ups, Calendula, various kinds of mint. Be sure your mini visitors know that they can't eat ALL flowers, just the special(magic?)ones in Peter's Garden.

I love the idea of a teacup/saucer in a patch of chamomile...make it a bird feeder for extra fun.

And DO post pics when you're done!

Grandmathyme- Thank you for so many great ideas! I really like the idea of a scarecrow, but what you said reminded me...wasn't there a little scarecrow in the story that was wearing Peter's clothes? That would be cute :)

I do have a little hoe and a lot of the other ideas would be fun to incorporate.

There is also a fairy garden, nearby, especially for my little nieces. They would love the idea of "magical" edible flowers!

I need to go back and read "Peter Rabbit" for sure. I don't think I was paying attention the first time, a couple centuries ago, I don't remember much about it. The only thing I can think of now is cabbages and carrots. Both are really beautiful individual plants you might incorporate (and eat later on) and don't they tie in with the story. (I've been considering transplanting some cabbages in with the roses, I love that blue green for contrast.) I've really got to go back and read it. I did that with "Charlots Web" and now I can't kill a spider, lol. I know it (PR) has something to do with fences.

A bed of camomile sounds just lovely.

Love all these ideas - makes me want to make a Peter Rabbit garden too. While you're re-reading the book, you might to watch the movie Miss Potter too - about the life of Beatrix Potter - I loved it!

There are some great ideas here. I think it was a watering can he hid in, so maybe one with a bunny tail (or ears) sticking out. Also the farmer tried to catch him in a sieve, so you could put one out some where. And how about 3 pink bunnies for Mopsy, Flopsy and Cotton-Tail. One thing I would put, but may be a little morbid for kiddies, is a fake pie of some sort, after all that's the "accident" that happened to Peter's daddy.

wow...de javu all over again.
I read this and immediately went back to the second grade, of all times, when I was in a small, rather itty bitty stage production for one of the PTA meetings.
my costume was a little fairy, with wings somehow fit to my shoulders, to wear..and when Mr. McGreger was about to catch Peter Rabbit..
I ran on stage and as loud as my little 7 year old, scared to death, timid voice could do, exclaimed.. "Run Peter, Run!!"

that was it..
I can't remember but I'm fairly sure that I got off stage and probably cried.
I know it left an impression on me.

so, I can only think of a head of half eaten lettuce, planted in the garden, with Peter perched next to it... for my 2 cents worth.

I remember this series of books as a first grader...still remember where they were in my grade school library and the sweet librarian who introduced the books to me.

If you haven't seen the movie, Miss Potter, with Renee Zellweger, you have to see it. It's the life story of Beatrix Potter...a clean, nice movie. After seeing the movie, I have such respect for Beatrix Potter. She was inspirational in her time and still today!

so funny/odd!!.....i was going through things to get rid of for a yard sale, and i found 3 beatrix potter pop-up books the kids were never interested in, and 3 beatrix potter coloring books:D i'll try to remember to go back and peek at the colored pictures. i also remember the watering can, my mother had one like it..a huge old thing, that was ancient when i was a little girl, lol.....and the scarecrow who got peter's clothes, but i'm pretty sure there were some clay pots next to a shed, or next to the garden gate. this sounds like a great idea....good luck!

Wow! What a great idea and so many wonderful ideas! The movie Kirk mentioned is a really good one, so you should see it if you can! I love all of the suggestions, and you might even still be able to pick up a bunny or two from the craft store after Easter sales...you never know. Can't wait to see the pictures...it sounds absolutely adorable!

Def need to put in a rabbit statuary then...and perhaps some of this friends as well. I was perusing some pics from the story and there was one pic where it had a shovel in the ground and a bird sitting atop. I think the bird and the rabbit were conversing...maybe you can shove an old shovel into the ground right by a rabbit statuary and then place a bird figure on the handle...

Need more ideas? I can dream up more...lol ;-)
