Great job!

No, Kathy, it's only 7 ft wide &10 ft long I think. Tree is covered with blossoms right now & lots of fruit, nice big oranges! It looks better than it has in years! The pavers go about 1 ft past the trunk. It gives me a place to set my pots on that is protected in winter, I wrap king size sheets 2 layers thick around the tree as high as I can stand on my 6 ft ladder & safety pin them so that frost doesn't kill the oranges. 1st 20 yrs didn't need to do that but weather has gotten little colder with several frosts each year. I've removed them now(end of March). I have a dry path to side yard with this & I've really enjoyed it. It has a spiked thing to hold the pavers in place on ends & side & sand was worked in with a broom, I didn't dig it up at all,looked level & I do better eyeballing something than trying to "get it level"(not on a sand bed) as I wanted it high & dry! I filled in around trunk with sand. I think most of roots are out farther & that is where I put tree spikes to feed it.Jan

Here's my paver patio, new as of last Summer when I got tired of the weeds.

It's filled in nicely with greenery after this years' rain. I just go around the top with a weed wacker so it keeps its good looks!

On the other side of the patio I placed curvy pink circular bricks around a wrought iron trellis (which is the part I did not fill in), and let the morning glories fill the trellis. I get oodles of compliments on this!

great job! i love those shaped pavers. i hope you don't mind me posting a photo of one my mama made about 27 years ago. i just found these photos! that's my son about 3 years old. i believe these are bricks from old downtown gulfport,mississippi. look at the washtubs, i actually used them for laundry!

I don't mind, Kudzu, I love old bricks, I have a few my dad got from curbside when he was still working, with different names on them,I would love to find a chimney that is curbside, I would be filling my trunk up especially if they had a lot of character small areas of paint or black, I always wonder what their story is!! I found a couple of pieces of a very old clay pot in my mini-rose garden. Was there a house here years ago?? I found a few pieces of old concrete with large rocks in it-well couple of inches wide, not anything like used now & it had been troweled fairly smooth. I think your mom's patio looks very much at home in that spot & so does your son! Glad you have such sweet memories of them! Jan

It looks nice. I just got almost a pallet full of similar pavers (mine are more square shaped and a greyish color) for FREE! A friend of mine had them sitting in the backyard and they aren't big Craigslisters so alas they are coming to me. You patio has inspired me! I plan to make a path with mine, but you never know!

Neonrain, I like how the green separates your pavers. So you weed whack, then sweep it once or twice a month to keep it looking good? I've always wondered how people kept them looking neat.

Kudzu, precious memories looking at your son on Mom's patio, huh?

I need to do a walkway on the side of my house, just have mulch over there now and it doesn't look that great. Keep putting it off because I hate the idea of all that digging to get the pavers level--but I know it would be worth it in the long run.

Nice job, Jan! I like the idea of the pavers around a tree. I always admired decks that were built around trees too. Sure makes it easier to clean up doesn't it? I remember my grandma planted a crabapple tree in our yard when I was a kid. It sure made a mess on the lawn! It was worse than the dogs. lol! And in later summer/early fall the bees loved the fallen apples. The yard would be full of them. Everyone else's pavers look great too!

Luna, Luvs,Homer & Sorie,Thanks, I didn't think about the 2 times a year the tree is covered in blossoms, kind of like "vanilla snow" & now it's raining so will be a mess. Mostly just hose it off quickly. Luna, your crabapple tree reminds me of this wonderful nectarine tree we had right out past our patio. Problem was all the fruit seemed to ripen 1 weekend when we had been gone & came home to all the fruit on the ground & hundreds of bees. I'm very allergic to them & have ended up in hospital number of times.Tried to smoke them away. Finally when they didn't leave after dark DH went out & sprayed wasp spray & early in morning the whole works went in trash & tree got chopped down, not a good solution but DS was also allergic & was a case of us or them, it had been hard the few years we had had the tree trying to get the fruit off without sticking fingers on a bee so not for us. Peaches, apples & oranges are much safer. Peach tree is only 4 ft high as it was pit at bro.'s house from pit dad had planted. It had lots of blooms & it's the 2nd yr so maybe will get some fruit.Hope the rain doesn't knock all the blossoms off. Other problem I had with fruit was scrub jays wanting all the concord grapes for themselves & they made my head bleed.Mean little critters! I had to arm myself with 5 gal bucket for the grapes & metal rake to swing to keep them away from me while I picked all the grapes off. That was end of them,cut them down. I made grape juice but it didn't taste like Welches!LOL My jelly was better tho!! Sometimes fruit trees or vines are a problem! Most of time not!
