I am totally jealous!!! That is a steal.

I have asked area TS to let me know when they have broken china, pottery, etc. but they aren't very agreeable about it. One store told me to ask for discount if I find something broken or chipped. I thought that was kind of stupid because it would encourage me to break stuff. Your TS certainly has the right idea! If they refused to sell things as they are broken but stockpiled them to sell in the laundry baskets that would prevent people from breaking things because they would have no idea when the item they want would go on sale. I should suggest that to area thrift stores around here.

Now the $10 for the BBs is kind of steep!

If you can, go when they close and look in their dumpster. The one I frequent intentionally breaks almost everything they throw away...and they discard a huge percentage of their donations too. Sometimes a few things won't be broken, but it is "heart breaking" when you see some of the nice things that they intentionally break. A lot of the stuff never sees the inside of the thrift shop. A lot of the stuff would sell if they put it on the shelves...before they broke it. I got this vase out of their dumpster, and it landed unbroken, but most don't fare as well. It's a McCoy.

I'd like to say some good things about the non-profit thrift shops. I volunteer at a St. Vincent dePaul Shop. Almost nothing gets wasted. If an item doesn't meet our standards it is placed in receptacles that get picked up by the St. Vincent Society and taken to their central (this is Atlanta area) store. There people truly in need can get clothing and household articles at no charge. Long story short, I feel the non-profits are the place to shop. No salaries, so all monies after rent and utilities got to those in need.

My TS says they are not allowed to sell anything with a crack or chip, so if I find anything that is chipped in the store they usually give it to me for a quarter...sometimes free if I am buying a lot of other stuff. Not sure if this is typical or if it's because I am in there every week....I think it pays to get to know the staff...LOL.
