You could edge walkways or garden beds with them.

Someone here is making a walkway out of bottles and that looks really nice too.

Just bury them in the ground - neck down to the depth that you want them.

I saw On HG that they free-cycled a rock tumbler and broke the bottles and then used them in a design on the ground, Tumble so they won't be sharp on the feet.

I have seen them used as an edging like sherill_2008 suggested. I thought that was pretty cool and relatively easy to do. I also have a penchant for bottle trees so that would be a fun idea. I think it would be a hoot to make a bottle tree coming out of a beer keg and then put all the beer bottles on it.

Or you could do like folk artist Fred Smith did in northern Wisconsin and create a concrete park, mosaicking concrete figures with broken bottles. See the link below for inspiration.

Thanks everyone for your excellent suggestions. I did try edging my garden with them, but since it is a raised garden, they hid the junk from view. I did think Corar's idea of a garden path was unique and went to the site she suggested. A lady called Nova did an amazing path that took her two months to finish. Here is a pic of her path. I collected a couple dozen a few years ago and edged a circle flower bed up back. It was nice for about a year, then the bottle started to "pop" out of the ground and some of them broke. Some of the grass and weeds grew up inside the bottles. I ended up discouraged because the whole idea ended up causing more grief and work than I planned. It's just not a good idea in our area with because the ground freezes and all of that plus we have wet spots in our back yard depending on how much rain we get. I pulled them all out last spring and tossed them...filled 3/4 of a 33 gallon garbage can, I'm sure the garbage men thought we were drunks! LOL

I say bottle tree too

I'm particularly fond of bottle (beer and wine) borders, I've been putting them in slowly for the last 4 or 5 years, and haven't had any frost heaving or popping problems in the winter. Overzealous weedwhacking will occasionally break a bottle, but you learn pretty quickly how to avoid that. :)

Looks like I actually need to take some more current pictures of the borders, but the link below shows the one I put in first, around a new herb garden. I've since rearranged and enlarged it (mixing the brown, green and blue bottles more randomly along the border).
