Adenium seedlings

HI all,

I haven't posted here in a couple years now... thought I'd post a few updates.

Posted about these a couple years ago. Some Adeniums I started from seed:

Here they are now. Culled for any that were not producing a nice caudex. I'll admit to not taking great care of them, so they probably haven't grown as fast as they could have, and only one of them has flowered so far.

Any advice or growing tips are always appreciated.

Wow! I don't know about growing these from seed. But they look nice! Youve got some cuties these :)

They definitely look sun-burned, I would put them in indirect bright light and then gradually bring them to direct sunlight. Adenium are pretty hardy, I think that they'll be ok. Also you can tell when they need watering by paying attention to the stem. If it gets all wrinkly and soft, and your soil is dry, then they're thirsty.

With more than two hundred seedlings grown since last August, I would agree that genetics is the determinating factor whether your seedling will branch early on.. All of two types of Ko plants did this within a few weeks of germination, while other kinds have concentrated on single branch growth.. If time allows, rather than cutting down the central branch,. just rotate the plants every day so that not only do the tiny branches receive even sunlight but also the central branch grows straight (if that is a "look" you want).

Hi all - just a little happy sharing of new funny growing seedlings. I started this seeds under white lights indoors with heading around 23 degrees. Now they are in my conservatory with degrees from 15 in the night and to 30 in the day. They are 2 months today and around 4 percent have started multi branching in the top. The hight is only about 2,5 cm - so they are small. Have you also experienced this behavior and where the conditions special?

You know the one thing about seeds is their diversity gene wise. Everyone of those seeds is different than the parents. That’s why you use cuttings. If...if you have enough seeds one is nearly sure to survive. In that environment. Since your lucky enough to get one to root in that system. But it becomes naturalize to that system. The Krathy, Aerogardens are both the same thing. It’s just package different. The rose is just a big potato. Pull it out, let it sit in the morning sun for a week till the old roots die off. Then stick it into what ever you want. Of course there’s a thought. The seeds it produces could generate more seeds that will grow in an Aerogarden. Cross those seeds and you will get more seeds that will grow in a wet environment. Do that for 4 generation and you might have a saleable seed item. Another thing. The Rose is just a big potato. A desert plant that sucks up water. The others died trying to suck up that much water and rotted away.

cactusmcharris: Thanks :) I bought them from Rarexoticseeds, mail order from Montreal (or at least somewhere in Quebec). I got some cactus and agave seeds from them too last year, but they didn't germinate quite as well as the Adeniums.

averil: It's an awsome view of the lake Ontario shore here in Toronto, but it's also south-west facing so I tend to get blasted by the sun in the afternoon. Great for a lot of my plants, but tends to overpower my poor AC.

Great looking seedlings and thanks for listing the seed company. I'm also an Ontario resident and might just order from this company and try my hand at growing from seed.
