The legal document that you should go by is the label. If there are no specific directions for indoor use, then you shouldn't use this product inside. Pesticides may react differently in a container and with the typical potting mix. Also, fume inhalation is a primary mode of pesticide exposure. To get some good information about your question, call the toll free information number that will be listed on the label. It is in the company's best interest that you use their product safely.

You might want to read (or listen) to the news piece NPR did on this subject, dated April 22 2015. Found in the Salt, titled http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2015/04/22/401536105/buzz-over-bee-health-new-pesticide-studies-rev-up-controversy I purchased several flats of thyme from HD a few days ago and found the same plastic marker shown above stating the plants were treated with neonics. These ground covering plants were to replace the lawn, as we are looking for water-saving alternatives to grass. What I find particularly disturbing is that in the NPR story, the study mentions that crop seeds are treated (coated) with this chemical. After the seed germinates (typically corn or soybeans), the plant grows, incorporating this nicotine compound into its cells. There is still enough active compound remaining in the plant after it has grown to a mature size, bearing flowers, to be an effective insecticide. The nicotine is found in the pollen and nectar of these flowers, and is consumed by bees. What?! That is a very powerful compound if what is coated on an individual seed is enough to deliver a dose to leaves and flowers after several months of growth. I mistakenly thought that most pesticides had to be sprayed on the plant repeatedly over the growing season. The benefit of a genetic alteration, like having a plant make a Bt protein, is that nothing is sprayed or added to the soil. But in this case, a seed treated with a coating is able to permeate every cell of the plant as it grows. I understand there are many chemicals used in agriculture that are labelled "systemics", but I envisioned that such a product required it to be liberally spread in the soil or sprayed on the leaves, where the plant takes it in and distributes throughout it's tissues. Somehow the idea that something coated on a seed could last this long is just not something I had considered. I certainly would never chose to use these chemicals in my garden. I hate to think this ground cover will harbor this compound for many months. I will have to research this some more before I decide what to do.

Most of it doesn't look like bugs, perhaps photos 4 & 6 - if you see fine webbing, it could be mealy bugs. Rest of damage could be mechanical - other plant rubbing against, or pot, or even some critter damage while outdoors. Even 'funky leaf growth' could be caused by something similar. And it is difficult to have a plant without any blemish whatsoever. Here are few snapshots, as you can see, there are some spots here and there. Variegated jade (Tricolor) is known for having brown spots. Mealy bugs are tiny and hard to see, but fine white web gives them away. They tend to 'hide' in tighter spaces, so if spraying, make sure spray gets everywhere. If nothing came off while using q-tip moistened with alcohol or scraping, I don't believe there are bugs. Diseases like rot or fungus will look different. Did you wash off all soil from the roots while re-potting? That is the best thing to do. If there is bug infestation(especially mealy bugs), affected plant should be isolated and treated. If you think few plants may have it, it is best to treat them all. I never used Bayer, just read about using it. In over 3yrs of growing succulents, I have used only rubbing alcohol spray or swab. Brad (paracelsus) gave you good advice above about the dosage. Rina edit to add: I copied what Crenda wrote on another post: I do not spray the Bayer on my plants. They are all outside all year and in full sun. I am afraid it would burn or damage the leaves, especially those planted in the ground. Maybe someone else has a different experience to share, but I cannot advise you on that. I use the Bayer 3-in-1 or the Bayer Tree and Shrub as a soil drench. I water the plants lightly with the solution so the roots can take up the insecticide. This will protect my plants from any pests that bite them. This treatment can be done every 3-6 months.

That's actually a very good question as it strikes at the heart of "organic" vs factory farming. IMHO, organic gardening is more labor intensive and much safer for you and the environment. Visit your local Grocery Store and you'll see the produce department filled with gorgeous veggies. The ones labeled organic will cost more than the factory farmed ones. Also, since the consumer now wants Strawberries in February, etc. A large majority are shipped in from Mexico, Central and South America. Think they don't use various and sundry chemicals? I own a farm, though not doing much with it anymore as I'm retired, am very familiar with the various chemical cocktails Bayer, etc. woo farmers with. If you want to be comfy with chemicals, consider this, Chemicals are very expensive, farmers use the minimal amount to achieve the desired level of control. Contrast that to the "urbanite" who buys something at the local garden center, breaks out the gallon pump up sprayer, probably doesn't read the instructions e.g. "1/2-1 tsp. per gallon of water and proceeds to put in a few "glugs." Hey, this is America, more has gotta be better-right? Guess what, it controls the problem. If you want to use chemicals, READ the instuctions and err on the low side of the application rate. If the instructions say "damp or moisten" DON"T drown the plant! Yeah, more is better. Put another way, At some point you've probably had your M.D. proscribe something and got the explanation that "Drugs aren't good for you, however, we evaluate the "desired result vs the bad result" and you should take this. Words to that..... With the evolution of the Colorado Potato Beetle's resistance to anything else, if you buy potatoes, they've been treated with a systemic. To really understand what a systemic is, consider this: A trench or furrow is dug in your garden, potatoes are placed in it, a systemic is sprayed down the row, "annointing" both seed potatoes and the soil between, row is covered. As the potato grows, it absorbs this, a beetle comes along and proceeds to dine on the plant and dies. One treatment, good for the entire season. So the chemical is spread thoughout the plant, including the potatoes you harvest. BTW, it also stays in the soil, successive planting over succesive years the level increases. A pollinator wanders in and takes nectar from a bloom.....:-( As I said earlier, Organic is more labor intensive and is better for the environment and you. However, with the world population increasing and insects continuing to develop resistance to controls available, more and stronger controls are continually being developed in order to provide enough food. I'm not going anywhere with this particuarly, just wanted folks to understand what systemic means and if you choose to go that route, understand what you're doing and exhaust mechanical means as described above, sprays, pinching, barriers, etc. before chemicals are used.
