A Blue Glass Birdfeeder for My Wife

Hi everyone! Wanted to share a gift I made for my wife Carol this week. Our kitty broke one of our teacup birdfeeders when it was stored in the garage this winter. (Bad kitty! LOL) I took off the brass cap from the bottom of the broken feeder and attached it to a Dollar Tree candle plate and a cool blue bowl I found at our local thrift store. Sandy (aka use2bcapecodr) told me about the Dollar Tree candle dishes. Thank you Sandy!

The old feeder had wire mesh down inside it so the sunflower seeds would be toward the top, and any water would go to the bottom. It didnÂt really matter because the birds emptied it daily! :o) Anyways, wanted to share my simple creation with my GardenWeb Junking friends! I actually dreamed over and over again one night about putting it together. So, I finally assembled it so I could have a good nightÂs sleep. Ha! ENJOY! Bear Hugs! That is so pretty. I love blue glass anyway, but the shape of this makes it extra nice. Hope it warms up for you soon, know you can't wait to get things going in yard again.
They are predicting our first 100 degree day soon, ugh. Wish I could send to you to enjoy, LOL.

It's gorgeous Kirkus, very lovely. I'm a blue lover too so you know it's perfect.

Karen - 100 deg already, WOW. Stay cool. We're having nice Spring weather here in the NE and have enjoyed two weeks of warm and sunny days so far.

I like it, too, kirk...used to use some of those when raised chickens! I made one of those solar lights w/blue jars that were posted last Fall, I think. jan has a good idea...& adding this to your arbor ...& the lid idea you mentioned, too. Wow! Thanks everyone for your nice comments! Made my day! You ALL inspire me so much to think "beyond the box". Before I joined the forum, I would have never thought to place a paperweight in my garden. You keep my creative juices flowing. Thank you for inspiring me! I "haunt" shopgoodwill, but Carol has banned me from it for awhile! LOL My last purchase before the ban (LOL) was a wood squirrel holding a brass nut. Can't wait to get it! Should look cool on our country porch. Karen and Luna, I love the Miscellaneous, Home Decor, Collectibles, Figurines, and Glass categories. It's amazing what you can find there but some things are pricey with shipping so I try to be careful. :o) Thanks again, everyone! Thanks ya'll. DH says hey that looks just like the one I made,lol, I said it IS yours :) Hey check out what I just noticed, there is a little "twin" cucumber right behind the jar just above the hand rail. Two cucumbers growing together! I bet the terra cotta saucer would look great,especially if you can find the galvanized feeders. I really wanted those,but our feed store only sells plastic,and DH didnt order galvanized ones. That's ok, we found lots of plates at GW to match the colored plastic. I haven't drilled them MYSELF :) but I've watched DH,and it looked like it goes through the plates like butter. He used a glass and ceramic bit. Harder to go through the jar. He said not to run it on high speed,it cuts better at slow speed. I'll still leave that up to him,but at least I know what to do:) Those would be great gifts for candy corn,how cute,Nona! I think you'd have to drill the jar,to get the chain on to hang it,lol!

I love the suggestions Grover made with the shelves and the paint color! The dark shelves bring out the edging on the tile and make the tile and tub the focal point. Of course, then I might look for different art that is a little softer to replace the blue pic. One thing always leads to another. I agree that something on the other wall would probably be too much but I don't think the metal wall décor in this spot is the best option.

Wow...awesome, Kirk! What a great little bowl!

I was at the Dollar Tree near us the other day, and they still have a bunch of those little candle dishes. Mustn't be many Garden Junkers around here...or at least they haven't discovered them yet! I bought 10 0r 12 of them...which is my limit! chuckle

Just can't beat blue in the garden!!

Garianntx, So easy to do. I used GEII to glue it all together. Attached a copper cap fitting to the bottom. Once dry, the fitting fits onto a copper pipe. Below is the link to the Gardenweb Junk FAQ that tells how to do the teacup and saucer feeder. I did my bowl and saucer the same way. Have fun!
