bowling balls, bunk bed benches, signs, and a rain chain??????

OK I have read and reread all the things you creative people around here have been doing. So I got some bowling balls and broke a mirror and then.....look at that....after grouting and glueing pieces of broken mirror on there, I had a new gazing ball. It wasnt as hard as I thought it would be and it turned out kind of nice. I have 2 more started with broken mirror and 2 started with the little glass blobs or half marbles. I had put together and base painted some chairs that were in our garage last fall. I got 3 of them painted with flowers and vines all over them. So, now I started the 4th one with, guess what.......pieces of mirror. LOL I'm gonna cut holes in the seats for a planter to sit inside. I've made several signs now too. Remember you guys got me started on this stuff. LOL Took an old window frame and added a box on the front of it, painted it with flowers and vines and now its ready for the garden too. I saw the posts about the bed/benches. I started watching freecycle for someone giving one away. I got a partial bunk bed on Tuesday and today I finished putting them together. Another coat of paint and they will be ready for the garden also. But my question to you all is this: What do you think a rain chain made out of vegetable cans would look like? Since reading all of your posts I am finding it hard to throw anything away. Just think of what can be made of the stuff. lol Been saving the lids of these and then taking a pair of tin snips and cutting into them, then bending the pieces up a little. I"m going to paint them and put them on something as a flower. I think it might be cute. But I"m still thinking the cans can be used to make a rain chain too. Let me know what ya think.

Hi Deb, Now your starting to get into what this site is about! I'm inthe process of making a prnnT? penny globe and started it tonight. Lotts harder than I thought! BIG! LOTS OF PENNYS! OMG I am really torn here. I understand exactly what Cheryl seamommy said and realize she wasn't criticizing the threads or the folk here at GWGJ only wanting more posts about Garden Junk that pertains to the find and re-purpose items from junk to garden treasures. I don't post much but I read all the time and I see her point about glass totems dominating the threads. Those are a great winter project to work on while many are snowbound and the gardens are dormant. Such with BBs and bottle bugs and those things we can do from a small area in the home. I've seen the albums. I know now that spring and summer are here we will be seeing again the "Real Junk" that Cheryl Seamommy is talking about. I remember the POTMs from when I just lurked behind CT and loved so many of the ideas and the fabulous interpretations of the Month's meaning. CT went bed bench crazy and made many of them. She gave them away as gifts and sold them as well but after her 30th bench I was ready to move on. LOL her old propane tank to table fire pits were exquisite but after many of those time to move on. We find something we like and work it to perfection and them get inspired to do something else. I think at one point I made so many concrete mosaic stepping stones the DH was going to get me medicated. LOL The projects will change again and someone will find a new "thing" for everyone to get excited about. I have and been accepted into a group of guys and gals who offer advice and encouragement for anyone in need. I always felt welcomed here, even with my infrequent posts. Now I see something that is so very unlike what I have known and come to expect from the great folk at GWGJ. I truly feel the photo of the doll with lips on the arse was quite rude and classless as a response. It was kind of shocking to me to see something like that from a member of this forum directed to another member only asking a question. Cheryl I feel like I should apologize to you for the rudeness of some of the posts. When you have the capability to post pics I'm sure you will. I feel deprived I don't have the ability to get great pics and post them yet. I couldn't afford a camera until recently. I just got a camera. I still have to learn to use. Time constraints make my days so full I may be a while in the learning process. I don't get to spend all day at the computer, between the job, the volunteer work, household, and yard and garden work I am a busy woman. I really hope not posting photos isn't keeping anyone from being part of the GWGJ. Just give it a little time and I'm sure you'll see different projects, some new and some come around again. LOL LIL

OMG, Susie....a Garden Swingers Calendar. LOL, I'll buy one for sure! Looks like you already have the first two for it, just 10 to go. And the first day of each month could be designated "Start POTM Day" and the last day "Show POTM Day". All the others days would be WORK days. sigh. I am feeling mighty left out of y'all's boat of Project Starters. My problem is GETTING started. I have loads of stuff in the garage to work on, but I look at it all and get overwhelmed and then I don't even pick a project to begin work on. I think the Old Woman stole my "ON" switch along with the other things missing around here. I seriously need help (which I'm sure is EXACTLT what my family thinks too!!! LOL) hugs, Karen

Karen, I am so sorry to read about Nipper. Pets are part of us. They are there when we need them, no questions asked. No unnecessary words to mar the beautiful silence, a partner in the garden, couch and bed. It is so hard to let them go. Thank you for sharing Nipper with us. He was absolutley gorgeous. Shannon P.S. I had to put my Australian Sheperd down in April. I planted an Endless Hydrangea in her memory. I chose EH because it blooms on old wood and new- I got Cappie when she was a puppy and I was a teenager- young. She was a retired trail dog. She has been with me through hs, college, getting married, and kids- old. It blooms all summer/endlessly like Cappie's friendship and companionship. The hydrangea doesn't replace her by any means but it helps to look out my window and see her shrub. It is also easy to take cuttings so that if we move she can go with us. Shannon

This is a really fun thread. I like to see what everyone has in their garden and how thoughtful about art and creative you all are. I often think I'm going to "make" some garden art but then never get around to it. I don't decorate the garden with a whole lot of art. I have a few decorative stakes and then a few glazed birdbaths and some copper sprinklers that I use more for decoration than watering. My mom has a very cute piece of garden art. The story behind it is that we were at Hever Castle in England and they were selling all kinds of cement statues. We fell in love with so many of them. My mom couldn't part with this guy. Hever Castle was down a hill so we had to hike back up the hill, carry him on the rest of our tour and then carry him home on the plane. He weighed between 30-35 pounds so it was like carrying a little person around. He was well worth it though!

Hi maz. I really enjoyed the bowling ball project. At first I thought it was going to be too time consuming and too hard, especially since I had never grouted before. But it was a nice distraction and didnt take too long. I am in southwestern Michigan, in Edwardsburg. LOL Robert, my mind is still thinking.......what's next??? what's next????? I am especially excited that I have created "new" things for my yard without the expense of buying it. I bought ten dollars worth of grout for the bowling balls and ten dollars worth of blobs for 2 of them. And from that I"m getting 5 gazing balls. I think if I went and bought them my expense would have more than doubled. All I have in my two benches is the gas it took for me to go get them and I didnt have to travel far. And I have always wanted benches for my garden and now I have them. So, you guys keep throwing those ideas out there so I can keep going on these projects. LOL But it is starting to warm up here now. So very soon, these will all be put on hold because it will be time for gardening. LOL

Sounds like spring fever has got you good!! In answer to your question about tin can rain chains. You can snip into the cans and curl the sides upward.Spray pain any color you like.If you have any wire coat hangers you can cut them up and bend into "s" hooks to attach to the chains. Lowes has a project of the month on rain chains made from copper tubing. I just use left over swag lamp chain for mine,and catfood cans. Word of caution,the cans are very sharp when you snip into them and leather gloves keeps the band aids away! I like to thread a washer onto the "s" hook to keep them from tilting on the chain.

That washer on the S hook is a good idea and one of the problems I was thinking I would have with the rain chain. Thanks so much for sharing. Now I just need to push the canned veggies at meals around here so I will have enough cans for it. LOL

Does anyone have any directions on how to make the rain chains using cat food cans? I love reading the posts here but am reluctant to try since I'm not handy, just willing. Also pics would help me out a LOT!

There's another pond below those 2 in the pictures. I love my ponds too. The birds come in the summer and bathe in the channel. I love to watch them and the sound, of the water and the falls, is very soothing.
That window frame was very easy. Had the old frame, added the box on front, painted it, and its ready to go in the garden. I cant wait to see it after it's planted.

I too was totally inspired by the site and have never posted before. I read through all of the posts on bed benches for the garden and put one together over the last couple days.....I'm new to this, but attaching a link to the mostly finished bench.
