Will I ever finish what I start?

I have to laugh at not finishing projects. At this very moment I have a garbage picked half table I just painted and am in the process of smashing tiles to mosaic the top (half done), a magazine rack painted black with assorted ribbons and fabrics ready to embellish, a bowl of silverware to make a windchime, glass globe and vase to put together with lights, 2 bowls and middles to make plate flowers, the rock tumbler is going in the garage next to 2 benches I primed and am ready to stamp,headboard is out there with the footboard cut in half and wood to make the bench seat, and I stopped and picked up another table at the curb this morning to redo. Maybe tomorrow was not the best day to decide to have people over for dinner. Am I alone here? Anyone else going in several different directions at once?

I got the fridge into the room yesterday, and all by myself too. I decided to try it instead of waiting probably all summer before I found someone to help me. Heck, I had no trouble pushing and then pulling it right down the hallway form the bedroom to the kitchen and into place. It fits and as I mentioned is narrower than the white cupboard that sat there (you can see all the door trim now), but I forgot one detail. The fridge can not sit right up against the wall - it has to have some clearance not only for the wire grid on the back but for air circulation for it to operate well. Ugh. So it sticks out about three inches more beyond the sink than I had hoped. I thought I might have a difficult time getting used to seeing it there, but the trade off is that the fridge is SO much more convenient. My original vision is working afterall.

If it turns out that you do not have a hard drive or other hardware problem, there is something else to consider. Taking the machine to someone and paying them to figure out and fix your problem may not be cheap or quick. If your machine is capable of running Win 7, maybe your $ would be better spent to upgrade to that...unless you are trying to save files that you absolutely cannot afford to lose. Even if you fix the machine without doing this, you have to identify how and why this infection occurred in the first place. If you do not do this, then all your time-effort-money will be wasted because you will repeat the same errors and will certainly become infected again. Do you have any idea how this happened? Did you download any free toolbars-games-screensavers? Did you open an email attachment without scanning it? Do you normally click on unfamiliar links (especially on Facebook or MySpace) without checking them out first? If you did any such thing, you have to STOP until you learn more about how to keep yourself and your machine safe.

We're doing a full renovation on a house about the same size, with the same scope as you minus the boiler/chimney stuff (have furnace and central air). We're gutting kitchen and bath, refinishing hardwood floors, and replacing all plumbing and electrical. We're not spending anywhere near 200K!! Our budget is $10K and we're DIY-ing it on evenings and weekends (though it's just me here evenings, and we're only here about half the weekends). We expect to be move-in ready with all but the kitchen done about 4 months after purchase (mid July). Kitchen will probably be a couple months more, because I'm building/repurposing the cabinets myself. If we were buying the cabinets, we could get the thing done over a long holiday weekend. If you have pros going to town, it should be much faster than our chipping away at it. Heck, you're not moving walls and you've only got 5 rooms! If you've got full-time, dedicated contractors working, you can redo a bath in a week, a kitchen in a week, the hardwood floors in a few days (unless like me you're steaming layers of adhesive off them). If you add the plumbing and electrical work, double the time for each room. Don't know about the boiler/radiator stuff. I would probably space the stuff out, doing one major project at a time so that your already small house still has some refuge space somewhere.

Emtek Burgundy name is not new, but I'm not sure when they changed it - it's been at least 2 years (the last time I looked at their website). We've been in our home 6 years and ordered interior and exterior hardware by Emtek - it was not called Burgundy at the time. Maybe ORB? I'd have to pull tickets. Anyway, the levers are all okay - dark enough to look ORB, but the front door handles. O.M.G. BURGUNDY. They haven't changed all that much over the years either. They were special order, so not returnable (local store), and to be honest I was tired of 9 months of daily building decisions, so just kept them. Emtek probably had to change the name to let people know it really was Burgundy. I'm sure they had a lot of unhappy customers.

I also have a lot of projects going on. All of them in different stages of completion. I think it is perfectly normal for a true "junker". Besides, what is one supposed to do when the local store has marked down their 4 pks of annuals to 19 cents and perrennials for 50 cents? I say start another project and make a nice new corner flower bed! It doesn't matter that you already have at least 5 things already going. A bargain like that is way too good to pass up!

I feel so much better now! Remember, I am fairly new here, but here goes my list of started/unfinished projects
Trash picked table for porch, started sanding to faux marble finish
Stepping stones for pathway, 5 done, 25 to go
Freecycle concrete fountain, waiting for small leak to be fixed
Cool freecycle wagon, waiting for repair and paint but hasn't been out of use long enough to work on
Large trash picked glass front cabinet, needs nothing but to be moved to new home
Shady garden, new bed to be dug up and planted, edged only so far
The list goes on and on and ooops, just got selected to go dig up a 10x10 foot bed of strawberry plants, I guess strawberry bed goes to the top of the list. And silly me, didn't even know I needed a strawberry bed!!

I think we need to look at it this way, we will never die with soooo much to do. Thanks for your letter, I feel much better now!

Yep this is totally me!!!!
Plate flower finally glued together... need long piece of pipe for the stem.
One of those windmill trellises 3/4 way done need one more piece for the fan part... started last summer.....
Flower bed started this spring... 'critter bed' need some muscle and truck load of dirt. Dh is totally not interested in helping. Have several pieces of 'art' to put in this flower bed as soon as it's done and ten daylily starts.
Approx... 50 (!) plates to be broken and snipped for mosaics.
5 bowling balls to do something with.
And concrete stand for my chain carved eagle to mosaic (if I ever get the plates broken) That I showed everyone back this spring.
Gobs of various pieces of pretty glass for totems...missing several PERFECT pieces.
Now after listing all that I'm too depressed to get started!!!!!!!
I need to go to a ts to cheer myself up!! LOL!
It's nice to know I'm not alone in the procrastination dept.

I feel so loved because I'm just like everyone else! I'm not all alone in unfinished creations.
I have:
* 3 signs from scrap wood to finish.
* 3, throw away drawers to seal, line, stack & turn into flower beds.
* peppermint shoes to mosiac with peppermint candies.
* create fairie houses out of pieces of landscaping timbers.
* make signs for different areas in "Fairie Island", ie. "Fairie Hill", "Fairie Circle", etc. from small tomatoe juice cans.
* dig out the rest of "Fairie Island" in back yard.
* dig out "Peppermint Lane" flower bed next to back deck. And before I can do this, I have to block off the underside of the deck with something so the dog can't crawl under & get out of the yard.
* make signs for all my different flower beds, "Trumpet Point", "Rosemary Avenue", Joan Street", "Glory Road", etc. I really like garden signs!
* lay down plastic, fill with something and line the edges with stone to make a garden path through "Fairie Island".
Whew! I've worn myself out. Think I'd better stretch out in the backyard hammock with a tall, cool drink first.

Glad to know we're all in the same boat! Of course we all have lots of projects going on! You should see my dining room! Or, should I say, you can't see my dining room. Keep up the good work!

All of you have made me SO happy!! Here's my list.

9 glass/plate flowers ready for stems and leaves
2 flowers ready for leaves (not made yet)
1 totem 1/2 finished
Glass mushroom waiting for flat marbles
70' x 5 1/2' flower bed barely started
Dry river bed barely started
Rock garden needs finishing...have rocks...no plants
New potting shed needs painting
Concrete pieces for patio stacked and waiting
Bird bath partially done

OH, YEAH...and we have a whole new yard to landscape...etc....etc...

It must be a symptom of a Junquer. I don't have a room for my crafts anymore, so I have a card table in the living room that's piled high with china and stained glass, birdhouses and silver plate. Next to the dining table there's plastic storage bins I keep finished projects safely stored in, a small set of drawers I keep broken glass and china and roses in, shoe boxes full of decorative papers and beads, glues, brushes, paints,scissors,etc., I have quite a few projects in various stages of completion lying on the end of the dining table(we hardly ever eat on it!)My grandson asked me last night what happened to my old house, I thought he meant since the hurricane all the rebuilding we've done,different colors on walls,new furniture...but he said no, this house is all "trashy"...!!!!he pointed to my many piles of "art" around the living room and dining room :P Of course, it's the same house...but isn't he observant?? Such a smart kid:)He didn't bring up the back deck where there's stacks of glass things for totems and butterfly and bird baths,or the unfinished bowling balls in the front flower bed. No real excuse., I've just been lazy and busy and it sure seems hotter than ever...at least I could straighten up my inside projects! Too bad anytime I get stumped on one project I just start another!

OMG, Susie....a Garden Swingers Calendar. LOL, I'll buy one for sure! Looks like you already have the first two for it, just 10 to go. And the first day of each month could be designated "Start POTM Day" and the last day "Show POTM Day". All the others days would be WORK days. sigh.

I am feeling mighty left out of y'all's boat of Project Starters. My problem is GETTING started. I have loads of stuff in the garage to work on, but I look at it all and get overwhelmed and then I don't even pick a project to begin work on. I think the Old Woman stole my "ON" switch along with the other things missing around here.
I seriously need help (which I'm sure is EXACTLT what my family thinks too!!! LOL)

Oh lord, is this right up my alley! I have craft "crap" everywhere in the apartment. I have plastic bins with all my mosaic stuff in ... about 3 of those. I have drawers of beading stuff. I have boxes of glass stuff for totems and flowers. The list goes on! It's a wonder Bob hasn't kicked me out ... oh that's right, he is a junker too! God help us if a non-junker were to see our apartment!

Ahh, Luna, THAT IS AN AWESOME pic...thanks for sharing a "swingin' Bob!" Please post it on the conversation side also ...under Garden Junk Swingers...just in case, susiesunshine, takes up the project!

I also have LOTS of "materials" saved and in cupboards, drawers & a closet...and now I've been putting "glass" finds in my garden shed...hey, it's those mosiac & glass people...they made me do it! (not the O.W.) I am lucky to have one small bedroom for my computer/crafting/sewing/painting/jewelry, etc. etc. Jeanne S.
