My neighbors must think I'm insane

So my attempt at saving my blackberries from SWD this year is to do this--

To ever berry cluster. For once I'm thankful I only have three blackberry plants. LOL

I don't know for sure if it'll work or even if that fabric is fine enough. Summer weight fabric from gardeners.com. But desperate times and all that though... I want my blackberries!

I think it will work! keep us updated. Looks like something one could use to save seeds, make sure they self pollinate and not get pollen from other flowers.

I do that with trees susceptible to the Japanese beetles.

On one episode of the Homeland show, I noticed entire trees netted against some pest, possibly periodic cicadas. So people have seen this kind of thing before.

scully, lol My neighbors don't even do that much. The only plants they have were there when they bought the place. Not to be critical of them of course. They are the nicest people you could ever meet and I love them dearly, that being said, They haven't a clue why I work til I'm heat exhausted. Only a gardener can understand. rosefolly, I agree. I'm kicking myself for leaving it. I should have just ripped it all out like a bandaid. But it blocks a direct "shot" of my neighbors garage. He runs a home based business fixing cars. And he's a great mechanic with fair prices so he's ALWAYS busy. I don't want his customers to think I'm staring at them while they wait. And vise versa. I bought 2 nine barks to plant there. I hear they grow fast and tall. They gotta look better than that UGLY privet. My "helpers" Don't want to help in the cold weather. So it gonna have to wait til spring. RATS!! :) Laura

Oh, you ladies are giving me a lot to think about. I'm scheduled for the first of two foot surgeries August 1. I'll be in a walking cast after the first week, though, so I think I will be able to get around outside, as long as I don't overdo it. Fingers crossed. Of course, it's too hot in August for me to do more than water the plants, anyway, so I probably won't have to go buy myself a Powerwheels! Ha! You know, HOA's are bad enough about telling you what you can plant and where. I can't believe they can tell you what you can wear in your yard! I'm hoping you DO go out in your crazy PJ's. I wonder what else they retain of their Imperial measurements. The US is stuck pre-revolutionary times. You'd hardly know that the USA is a free nation the way so many cling desperately to the past. And in this case, a colonial past . . . Along with Burma (reactionary people, ain't they?) and Liberia (former colony for resettling US slaves), the USA stands outside of the International System. It has gotten so we even have a tuff time talking about units of measure with the Canadians. They made the change over 35 years ago so there are plenty of adults who have had no experience with the Imperial system. The USA, on the other hand, is permanently stuck as the 13 Colonies. digitS'

At first there is an ick factor, but after awhile karma comes along and I eat them now , because those ripe berries are the best tasting, whether maggot infested or not.

Good luck with your method of stopping SWD. We had them in our raspberries last summer, and I cut the patch down when the infestation got severe, to stop them from reproducing. Then we had a very cold and long winter, and this year, so far, no SWD in the raspberry patch! I am keeping my fingers crossed...

Don't worry about the neighbors, several years ago I put sockies on all of my peaches and it rained shortly thereafter making the sockies hang down. It wasn't long before I heard it, "your tree looks like it has condoms all over it". Well, from a distance the tree did look that way, didn't other me a bit. The peaches filled up the sockies in time.
