Spring Hat

I've been kind of bummed out. Thot was going to take some things to campgrounds at my cousins camper in April. But seems the campgrounds is not having this event this year. I have made BBs, signs, totems >>>>>>>>> Oh well, so decided to do something for myself. So I bought this glass piece awhile back. It wasn't until I was cleaning it that the light bulb came on(garden hat). Sometimes I am a little slow.LOL Then I needed something to raise it a little and plopped it on this yellow vase. Time went by and almost done with hat when I sat back and discovered that the vase was face shaped. So now it need to find the body. Still looking thru my stuff. That is really cute. Was the glass piece originally a light fixture? Can't wait to see pics of it in your garden. Why not use the garden stuff that you had planned to sell to decorate around your cousins campsite? you may be surprised at how much you sell with very little effort. I have found that I sell more of my stuff just by using it than I do when I enter shows.

We are having wind in the high teens with gusts to 25mph. It is snowing right now (may be graupel or just go straight to styrofoam). This is a little better weather than yesterday and certainly better than Friday & Saturday. Tuff spring weather and it just seems like winter won't let go. . . David, your roof story reminds me of working on the big glass greenhouses back in my youth. Surely, you can find a younger person to get up there and do that work. During a windstorm, it seemed hard to decide whether it was safer inside the greenhouse or outside. Certainly, you'd want to be upwind of a large structure made of a single layer of GLASS! Of course, they'd often lose glass and if it got very bad - out we'd go with roof ladders, caulking guns, and replacement glass. Whoa!! You never realize until times like those that you can hold on, not only with fingers and toes, but with knees, ankles, elbows, and wrists. All the while, pinning a loose piece of glass down with your forehead, nose and cheek . . . I enjoyed something called "bouldering" during those days. It was just kind of a natural evolution from roof work. I mean, anything was more reasonable than climbing where your safety net was thin wood glazing bars and glass. . . . malfunctioning autoimmunity put a stop to all that, before malfunctioning self-preservation did. SOooooooooo Pretty !! But I Have to warn you ... almost any glue you use will eat away the silver backround on the jewels and they will become VERY dull. I've been dealing with this ever since I Started doing stained glass . I used jewels on my mosaiced shoes - hoping that GE II wouldn't eat away the back. It did . gggrrrr.... I was 'told' that Weldbond won't - but I haven't tried it yet to see. Since those "oopsies" I've only been using jewels that I have removed the silver backing from - the color stays and they are see through then. Great for GOG ! How do you get the silver backing off ? Soak for a few hours in Liquid Plumb'r. !!!! Hope that hint helped !

I have three. I don't use them to store hats like I once did though. Now I have them filled with family trinkets and stuff that will go to my kids and one dear friend. They are each marked inside the lid as to who grts each one. There are things like my grandmothers watch, my great grandfathers drafting tool set, my mothers Eastern Star book and ring. A pair of gold spectacles that belonged to my grandmothers grandfather. A couple old family bibles, a christening dress. A trophy. Gosh just bunches of things. The one for my friend have things that represent many years of friendship.

Love your spring hat! I too like the face without features. Then you can use your imangination on what her expressions would be. Maybe just put her head on a bust & she can be the lady of the garden.

What a gorgeous Easter bonnet! When you started thinking of making features on her and creating a body, I thought, I am not artistic enough to make a good looking face on anything. lol! So I wouldn't try it. But you just might have the talent for it. If I attempted it, she would look like Alice the Goon from the old Popeye cartoons. lol! So what I'd do is pretend the vase is like a stand to show off the hat. Kind of like the mannequin heads in stores that have no features. Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket! he-he It just depends upon how artistic you are. If the face would look amateurish, it would detract from the prettiness of the hat. I think it is beautiful just the way it is!

Now I will look at the glass light fixture shades a little differently! Thanks for the wonderful inspiration!

Wow Kati! Love your creation! Looks like a burst of spring! When I first looked at it I thought how cute is would be as the head of one of the "garden ladies"! Love the color choices!

I walked out the door and 'found' a hat! I picked up a large,
round-bottomed, glass candle holder that sits in a
stand, at a sale. I had put it out in the sun, upside down
so the candle remnants would melt out. I don't think it is quite
as deep as yours, but still looks like a hat. If I wasn't so slow and
lazy, I could do it in a day probably--LOL
Don't hold your breath!!!! Inspriration I get from here every
day---Motivation is something I seem to be lacking
lately.
