If the goo is cloudy it is probably bacterial canker on the dozen goo tree -- too many wounds to be a borer I would say. I had two trees with that this spring (a dozen wounds, all cloudy goo, all along the lower trunk) and they have since been removed -- nothing you can do about that disease and I did not want it to spread. The tree with one wound could be less far along with canker or it could be a wound or a borer.

All the peaches, plums, apricots and cherries I have are diseased with this or other diseases so I'm giving up on them and planting mulberries, paw paws, and persimmons instead. Pears and Apples also have not had as many disease problems for me if I stick to disease resistant cultivars.

The "goo" is sort of clear and sort of cloudy and it may even have a tint or orange (although that may have been an optical illusion on my part.) It sort of looks like the aloe skin lotion that comes in a tube, or maybe if you took toothpaste and squirted it on the trunk (clear toothpaste though). I mention the toothpaste because the goo is pretty thick....it's not just flowing down the trunk, it's almost "growing/flowing" out of the trunk horizontally.

Bart, that sounds like my trees with canker but its hard to say for certain. It would be bad to chop it down and discover that it was nothing! On my trees it kept getting worse and worse, I watched it for a year before chopping them. There is also some chance you have a massive borer infection, take a paperclip and see if there are holes behind the wounds.
