This time of year you should have lots of lush green growth if there is enough N2 (if the ph is okay). Also the color of the leafs are very light green which is normal for tender new growth but the mature leafs should be much darker green. With southern high bush, summer reddening leafs is a sign of low N2 also. If your ph is 6.5 that explains alot though. You need to be in the 4-5ph. If you planted in clay, regardless of soil amendments, you will run into trouble with blues. If it were my plant, I would build a raised bed with 2X12 boards thats 4ft by 4ft. Fill the raised bed with 2/3 pinebark mulch and the other 1/3 spag. peat moss and sand or perilite. Add a 1/4 cup of sulfer, some organic fert(so you dont fry your plants) and if you can find mycorrhizal fungi, use it. The fungi helps the roots of blues in up take of water and nutrients. Really good stuff! Even with all that, you will still run into ph problems if your water is high on the ph scale. With only a couple plants you really need to get a drum under a gutter and collect some rain water and only use it on the blues. You will be rewarded with berries for years to come if you do.

im starting to think my problem might be a potassium deficiency, along with some kind of powdery mildew. im not quite sure yet. as i said i'm new to blueberries. actually they have given me nothing but problems since i bought them. i prepared in advance and built a special acid, micro nutrient and organic matter rich soil mix. did everything my best to ensure good results. when i first got them, they were a light green and starting to bloom. they then turned red when the temperatures went down, which had me on edge for a while. then one night there was a frost apparently, and that wiped out all of my flower buds, completely killing my harvest for this year. but then, after all of those headaches, they rebounded. once the soil warmed up a bit, the leaves darkened, and shined right up to a beautiful emerald green. the red tones went away, and everything was going great. then about a week ago i noticed some white marks/splotches on the upper portions of a couple leaves that didnt come off with water, and now im having these leaf issues. which leads me to the conclusion its powdery mildew, but everything i read says powdery mildew doesnt set in until mid/late summer. also the burning/necrosis of the leaf tips of the new growth, seem to indicate a potassium deficiency. this is all such a headache, i just want them to get settled in so i can stop thinking about them all day. any help would be appreciated.

Okay guys, so I finally tried this. First, I cooked the berries in a pot in the oven, but juiced them through a Jack Lalanne juicing machine (gift to myself, from an infomercial and this machine is great)so I got juice and pulp. I looked into my book again and the recipe is under raspberry jam, sure enough, but it is a bit different. Anyway here it is: 2 cups currant juice 2 lbs raspberry 5 1/2 cups sugar Bring fruit to boil, add sugar 1/2 cup at a time, cook to jelling. I doubled the quantities, the juice with pulp of my currants, fresh raspberries, added 3tbsps of lemon juice to the doubled recipe and added all the sugar at once. It cooked fast, about 10 minutes, jelled wonderfully and it tastes out of this world. Yield of the double recipe 15 half pints. I love raspberry jam but this is even better, I am very happy, so I used up all my fresh raspberries and came up with 70 jars of this stuff. Wow! Thanks Carol for making me aware of it, it's amazing!
