First Serissa Mt. Fuji leaves turning black! Help
Comments (5)Repot into new soil, and when you do it, snip off any obviously black, mushy or slimy roots. Do water once it's done, but when you water in future, remember it's about the frequency, not the amount... e.g. water well when you do it, but watch how often you do it. And... in bonsai, there are humidity trays full of water, but they're also full of pebbles large enough to keep the pots above the water at all times... and you water only from above... like rain does. As Serissa is tropical (or at least semitropical), you do want to use those trays, but do not ever let the water near the drain holes. Good luck....See MoreYoung Fruit tree leaves turning black HELP
Comments (9)You can't fix windburn. But if the trees are properly cared for otherwise, they should generally releaf pretty easily. Trees transported in full leaf in the back of a pick up or otherwise exposed to road wind can be badly damaged due to a combination of the strong air movement and dessication Some (like Japanese maples) to the point of death but other, tougher species, like most fruits, will survive although off to a less than auspicious start. The canopy/branch system should always be loosely tied and then covered....See MoreDracaena Massangeana - leaves are turning yellow and then brown!!
Comments (4)Think about where you usually see dracanea growing successfully? Office building hallways, doctors offices. Not much light at all. So you need to take it away from any direct or bright source of light to indirect lighting. It needs to be dry, do not spray the leaves except to clean every once and awhile. Check to make sure it doesn't have pests. A dry household can attact house plant pests such as scale, spider mites etc. They'll be evident on the back of the leaves. Is the plant in a pot that will drain, and excess moisture will be kept away from it's root. That is imperative with this plant. Try a moisture meter to check for dampness in your plant. If all else fails, it may not have been you at all, it could have been over or underwatered at the store. If you purchased it from a big box store, you can usually take it back. Comments (6)Cut one of the soft tips off. If it is black inside, start cutting back until you reach clean green wood. Do the same on the other soft branches. I wait one day and then spray with fungicide and when dry coat with tub and tile sealant (or water based paint or spackle) You must watch these as often a plant will continue to rot on down. If you are early enough, the plant will survive. As far as the yellow and brown leaves, those are normal and the plant is going dormant. Yellow leaves in Santa Ana Winds, because they are so dry, will go brown very quickly but they are already going dormant. I give them a light tug and if they pop off I trash the leaves. Sorry Jerri about the greenhouse disaster- hope the structure survived ok. Those were some heavy gusts and I saw trucks blown on their sides out near the passes by you. Hope your health is better.
