Bowling Balls With Glass Marbles

These are my last bowling balls covered with glass marbles. They were so easy to make, spray painted and covered with marbles, all of them in one day.

They are all beautiful, but I think the red one is my favorite.

I've only used the silicone,too. If I'm using all the same color marbles, I just "frost"a part of the ball with the silicone using a plastic disposable knife, then place the marbles. Doesn't take long to set, then I flip it over and do the other side. I put the ball in a bowl or something to hold it still.

I'm thinking, I'm thinking!!! After attaching the pics to the marbles and then using the GE Silicone II to attach them to the BB, did you grout the whole thing? I don't think it's a problem of attaching the pics to the marbles, I think it's that moisture can get under the marbles and destroy the pics. I would think that after doing the whole thing, let it set for a day or two to really dry the glue, then use a good outdoor grout to "seal" it all and that should take care of any moisture ruining the pics. Hi Busdriver :) I also buy mine at Walmart. And I made all mine with flat marbles from Walmart or Michaels,you'll need about 4 bags or so. I've been lucky enough to find vases full of those marbles at yard sales,along with candle stands that make great holders when you finish one. If I make one with all the same color marbles I use a plastic knife and spread the silicone on the ball that way,it's a lot easier. And I set mine in a bowl or something to keep it steady. But you'll get the idea after you read the faq and look at the galleries. Good luck :)

Thanks guys. I have to confess this was the easiest project ever. I just spread GE II very thickly all over (sections) and then took hand fulls of glass and patted them on. After each section dried I brushed off the excess. It took about 3 gluings, letting each dry in between. I get my tempered glass from the glass/cutting store. They usually have stacks of used glass for really cheap. It's really not very sharp, I didn't wear gloves. But you should be careful, especially picking it up afterward. Frou

They're all pretty. The middle one reminds me of the colors of spring flowers.

jeannespines, I'm not going to grout them, from a little distance they look great, they will blend well with the plants in the garden. I spray painted them before gluing on the marbles. The first one is a white/cream, second is brown and third is dark red. The paint gives them an uniform background. If I was using a mixture of broken china pieces with the marbles, yes grout would have been necessarily.

The center one reminds me of an everlasting gobstopper. You know... from the original Willy Wonka movie.

You make me want to dig my cobalt one out of the snow and finally fix it. :)

You did a great job, and fast too. they will look so nice in the garden.
Maybe someday I'll finish my bowling ball. Got to bring it home from my friends house. She never wants to mosaic.

Those are great! I did one just like the red one, but I think the pink and blue is my favorite.
