Succulent leaves curling at tips
Comments (9)When you see cold hardiness ratings of 26-27, beware that that means root hardiness. The leaves might get , no, WILL most likely die back(personal experience) and the roots will send out babies. Mine is in the plant category of the "we will water but not show off for a while". She has had her glorious pictures on here and is on a well earned SABATICAL. That is it. She is on sabbatical. After this winter, I have lots on a well earned sabbatical. Sigh.Time to sit back and enjoy everyone else's photos....See MoreJapanese Maple, brown curled leaf tips
Comments (17)Browning or curling leaf tips are rarely a sign of fungal infection. Usually the only thing fungal this time of year would cause spotting on the leaves, or a powdery look (powdery mildew). A good anti-fungal like Safer products should take care of anything like that. Usually the tip browning is because of stress. This can be under-watering, over-watering, too much sun, too much heat in general, or hot dry winds. Just use common sense with your plants and they should be fine. A little leaf tip damage is not going to harm them. If all the leaves dry up and fall off, that can be more serious, but even then they can recover fully - they have an extra set of leaves they can push out. However, if they use the second set of leaves and they get stressed again during this season, the plant will die. So its better not to let them get too stressed. Remember, Japanese Maples are not full sun plants normally speaking. If you have them in full sun it may just be too hot for them. Most of them do best with morning sun and afternoon shade. Even in hot, muggy climates like mine they thrive with morning sun, afternoon shade. Also be sure they are planted in good soil. They hate clay, and will quickly decline if planted in a poorly drained location. I plant all my JMs in raised beds with good top soil. I mulch well and have an inexpensive irrigation system that comes once every 4 days and gives them a good drink. In this heat they can quickly dry out, so I prefer some automation to help me keep on top of the watering chores. Good luck with your trees - I'm sure they'll do fine with a little TLC....See MoreTomato Leaf Curl, Yellow Spots, Yellow Leaf w/ Brown Spots
Comments (8)The plants in self-watering containers and in 5-gallon grow bags are both exhibiting the leaf roll. However, I do have 2 5-gallon grow bags that have plants in partial shade which do not exhibit leaf roll and are just as big, if not bigger, than those in the self-watering containers. I'm thinking the leaf roll may be root stress related. Either the 5-gallon containers/bags have become too small, the container gets too hot thus stressing the roots, or the potting soil has finally compacted and isn't delivering enough oxygen to the roots. I have tomato plants in raised beds as well and I haven't noticed any leaf roll with them. I have noticed a few had yellowing leaves w/brown spots (3rd picture), however....See Moremango leaves have tip burn, curling
Comments (15)Manny, if you didn't water the soil and you've had over 100 degrees its possible you've stressed the roots? Can you find a place to put your tree where it gets a few hours of shade in the hottest part of the day...Mango trees love full sun...but 100 degrees for too long might cause the tree to over heat especially in a pot...if its very dry and hot...you might have to water the tree daily. If its in a free draining soil...you don't want to over water it either and over compensate since mango does not like "wet roots"...best bet is to give it some shelter like under some trees during the hottest part of the day...Morning sun is best when temps are over 100 degrees...Good luck!...See MoreBumblebeez SC Zone 7
