Green-less Garden Junk in the Snowy Weather (pic heavy)

I love garden junk ...& now I can only enjoy gardening outdoors with my camera. So today was a warmer snowy day & I got outside!

Here's that bright 'red' sun near the door arbor garden!

It was cast iron when I got it & I spray-painted it for a pop of color!

Nearby is Gr'pa's Rake garden...I've shared pics of this w/you all ...Autumn Clematis is the last thing to bloom here plus Mint...looks pretty darn good today, too!

Headed out into my Secret Garden in the Pines ...here's that old Celestial Barwood Door:

Isn't it gorgeous w/the snow cover! Heavy wet snow 2" additional snow this morning.

Remember the whiskey barrel bands 'Sphere' I just shared recently...well, it hasn't been rolled around any yet! LOL!

Walking a little further into the woods & this this birdhouse pops out w/it's red colors on a big old stump ...near another old farm mower blade shown in this pic:

Nearby I couldn't miss my GJ blue bottle fence! It looks so pretty in the white snow!

OK, any of you 'painters,' out there...here's a Winter project for ya ...here's my old window painted & gifted by a good friend ...this is the 3rd or maybe 4th yr out now...loved how it looked w/the snow!

Love your painted window in the snow! The red birdhouse roof looks so inviting! birds must love it. All the snow covered or partly covered items look so cozy! TFS Jan

It all looks beautiful in the snow. The blue bottles sparkle and the red touches here and there are delightful, I really love that sphere. I'm almost ready to take apart my old barrel that I use as a stand on the porch to get at the metal bands. Inspired me to search for recycled wine barrels and look what a vinyard is doing! I wonder if they reuse the metal on new barrels as there aren't any spheres!

emtnest, I wondered how it could possibly work, lugging concrete leafs around. I read GARDEN GALLERY by Little & Lewis, and they make such items out in the Seattle area. What I have been trying to get my brother to do is to sell some of his original birdhouses. He has an unlimited supply of "Katrina" wood, since he lives just outside NOLa. Every time I run across a catalog with photos of hi-dolla bird houses--and I mean something close to a grand--I send him the pics. If I had his talents and supply of materials, I think I'd be at least advertising them on eBay or at local art fairs. This year I will go to the Mobile Festival of Flowers specifically to BUY one of the birdy mansions this man from the midwest created out of old river driftwood. Not exactly JUNK, but it came out of the debris pile...does that count? And at my house, we are currently having a disagreement about this set of heavy cypress louvered doors. I have them propping up the old metal garage door on a cement block garage that has no roof structure. I rather liked the cracked weathered white paint, with a cherub on a pedastal in between the two. But a few days ago I looked outdoors and saw DH scraping them down and painting them. He wanted them to look shiny new; I said what person in their right mind would put brand new doors in such a place? They are supposed to look aged. He tries to make the yard look NEAT, and I want it to have character. Sigh....

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac on a small street so not too many people see the gardens. It's so nice to share some pictures with a group of gardeners. The slope went through a drastic change about 5 years ago and now I'm really happy with it. Just this year we had the fence and arbor re-painted so that is looking quite fresh for photos. The slates in the cottage area were just re-done this year too. I'll post some more pictures of the cottage garden as the seasons progress. The daylilies should be exploding soon and fall is by far one of my favorite seasons in the cottage area. Nell, I actually was pretty scared on the porch roof as I'm not a big fan of heights. I wouldn't even stand up. As I was sitting taking the photos I realized just how hot my butt was getting on the black roof in the hot sun! Trailrunner, how did we do the stone steps? We hired a pro! Sometimes it's just worth it. We were lucky that all the stone was already on our property. It's amazing what can be done with heavy machinery. He did a good job picking out all the flat stones to make the steps. We had a lot of stonework that needed to be done so while we had him here we asked him to build the stairs. We have a number of slopes in the yard and I find it challenging and fun to tackle a slope.

June, thanks so much for your kind words. Because the cold winter still has much of my garden recovering, I kinda went away from my largely foliage theme in my garden this year and started planting color here and there and intensely in some areas. I'm finding it's a little too busy for me, as I prefer a more subtle garden. The BBG confirmed this for me. My favorite areas were the serene, sculpted areas with more foliage, less blooms. I did love the roses and flowers, of course, but was more fascinated and felt more at peace with plainer areas. Sometimes it's nice to have a change, though, and as my foliage recovers, the flowers distract the eye from them! Silvia, I'm glad the photos spurred some good memories for you. It is overwhelming, all the things there are to do and see in New York. However, I would not trade my bit of land for it all! Denise, I know when I was young the gardens would probably not have been on my short list of things to see. Yes, the roses were spectacular. So many types, so much color! Ahhh, thank you holiday-ers! I've been seeing all the decor going on here & wanted to do a little Fall stuff myself! Vacation was great, thanks everyone! OA, Candy, Jane...I planted apple gourds one season & 4 of them grew! Let them dry over winter & then painted 3 & DH drilled a hole for a bright red birdhouse that hangs in the pine trees in my Secret Garden...it's still there (3 summers now!) Karen, punk, Jane & luvs...my Mom would be very happy to know that I am now obsessed with Dollbaby! Thanks to all you "Enablers R Us" I change her duds & high chair tray quite frequently! Thanks for your sweet comments! I did get her another $2 TS jumper (red & white checked) with tiny apples on it...in the wash now...another time. LOL! First day of Fall is coming up this week...Wed., Sept. 22nd! (smartypants here, I Googled it!) ...so will be adding more. Thanks for your comments! Jeanne S. Everything is looking so great in the snow Jeanne! Love the red sunshine and the red topped house in the snow. Your bottle fence looks great too! Looks inviting even though it looks really cold...beautiful!

tshallow ...my friend just used outdoor acrylic paints & it's been out there for some time...it's faded some & it's in the shade alot ...but still looks great!

Yes, I love those dark Hollyhocks ...I've been getting more to seed back in another garden, too. They're called 'Alcea rosea nigra.'

Cold & rainy around here yet... here's pic from the other day...still waiting on Spring ...but the moisture is so appreciated!! Thanks, GJer's. Jeanne S.

Some great ideas here! Yes, still cold here, too, and snowing at the moment. Have been in the process over the past couple of years, of moving my perennial garden into the same area as my veggie garden. Will save this page for reference - thanks for posting the pics; it was worth the wait! :)
