Brussel sprouts starting to put sprouts!!!
Comments (5)Im not sure, this is a first year for me on brussel's....Is the leaf stalks still in good shape from you cutting them off? The sprouts grow at the base of the leaf stems, so if there is no place for them to grow that might be a problem. BUT its still early, and theres plenty of time for them to grow new healthy leaves!!!! -cass...See MoreWhen do brussels sprouts develop sprouts?
Comments (11)I had brussel sprouts in the spring that did squazoo, all summer they sat and grew. They are now over 4' tall and have big sprouts up the stem about halfway and then decrease until tiny tiny at the top. Our spring here was warmish and then bam, right into mid summer in temp. I guess it inhibited the growth. I was patient, actually didn't need that specific space, and it appears I will get produce after all....See MoreBrussels Sprouts Raw?
Comments (30)You asked for other ideas - I am very fond of the Moroccan couscous salad that used to be sold at Trader Joe's west coast stores (the one sold here wasn't the same). Whole wheat couscous prepared with a little garlic in the cooking water, tossed with diced green onion, diced sweet red pepper, chopped parsley, raisins (plumped up when the couscous was prepared), and pine nuts, dressed with lemon juice and olive oil, salt & pepper. It is a salad, so I add vegetables and greens as my fancy strikes me - almost always carrots. Quinoa would probably be a fine substitute or partial replacement for the wheat couscous too....See MoreIs this normal for sprouted brussel sprout seeds?
Comments (6)if you are talking about that fuzz at about 6:30 .. id probably pic it out ... im sure you have more than enough ... are you growing these for micro greens??.. if not.. put them in media.. immediately ... or just dump the whole lot.. and start on top of media ... curious where you are .. big city name ... do you have enough season left.. to get them from seed to product ... im surprised you started them this late.. but i dont know where you are ... where i am.. you buy sprouts as well started plants ... so that you can get them to harvest in october ... i would not be able to start seed in the ground and get that far by fall ... if i wanted to start them indoors... i would have started at least a month ago ... and most likely.. i wouldnt have wasted the space indoors on this type of late season plant ... ken...See Moreplanatus
