Squirrel feeder I mosaiced on. It's a PVC pipe mounted on a fence board with a small shelf for the squirrel to stand on and dig kernals of corn out the small opening at bottom. And the stack of bricks is a project waiting for better weather!

Marlene....sorry I can't give making directions. It was given to me and it came in kit form. I think my aunt ordered it from a little mail order like Collections, Etc. and she ordered the solar squirrell too. My grandson entered the squirrell feeder, before it got "posted" in the county fair as a kit project.....he got a blue ribbon...but can you believe the judges didn't know what it was!!!!! I really don't mind being in the kitchen with such entertainment right out the window

bkay, Would it be possible for you to cut up hardware wire or chicken wire and put it in your pots? You could use an empty pot as a guide, cut a circle out of the wire. Cut that circle in half and then make a space for the petioles. Oila, a squirrel proofed pot! It might take some time, but the wire could be reused each year, making the space for pets larger to account for growth. Steve

I don't have a pic at the moment, but a squirrel has never made it onto my platform feeder since we put it up many years ago. It is made of threaded iron pipe hammered into the ground with a screw on flange attached to the feeder. Below the feeder is a baffle made out of round metal duct probably 6" diameter and 2' long. There are some sheet metal strips crisscrossed to close off the top of the baffle tube and to give it some way to hang off the pole with another pipe fitting. The bottom of the feeder is probably a little under 5' off the ground. The pole has a clear area of maybe 4-5' all the way around. It is also a good 10' away from anything real high that they could use to jump down onto it from above. The setup is ugly as sin, but it works. I plan on trying to use a pole in an umbrella stand next so that I can move it around easily since I don't use it in the summer. I have heard that a baffle made out of 4" pvc with a cap is sufficient too. I wonder though if the plastic would not get roughed up enough over time to let them get a grip. Here are instructions for that type of baffle and it looks a lot better than mine. One thing I've tried but sadly, it only works for a short time is this: Spray the pole and every place the squirrels may touch with oily cooking spray. Then sprinkle it HEAVILY with red pepper. They really hate red pepper. The rain will wash it all away and red pepper is NOT cheap in the bigger containers, but it works. I mostly use it when I'm at my wit's end just to get the satisfaction of watching them try to get to the seed but can't. If someone could come up with a good reliable and affordable solution to this, they could make a lot of money! We've tried all the squirrel baffles, supposedly squirrel proof feeders, etc. but they always find a way around it.

Yes Max lots of folks squirrel proof their bird feeders. We on the other hand love watching them and feed both the squirrels and the birds. In the front yard and the back yard. I have even built special feeders, other than the one I posted, just for the squirrels. My quest when I go to a craft show is to look for a squirrel feeder and that is something that is a rare find. I couldn't find anything in the link you sent except a google advertisement. I tried multiple times

Thanks for posting that adorable pic Max Made my heart happy.....just hope someone felt sorry for him and fed him! The birds benefit from this feeder also. The squirrels just eat the heart out of the corn and the birds gather on the ground and clean up what the squirrel discards! so it's a win win situation.

That is a very nice project oldcrafty! I admit I too feed the squirrels though not from their own feeder. Yesterday morning I was standing watching the bird feeding stations outside my sliding glass doors, laughing at the four squirrels hanging upside down and every which way from my latest 'squirrel proof' feeder. I spend all winter pretending I don't feed them even though I dearly love watching them and the birds sort things out.

Just wanted to say howdy to everyone on another frigid winter day. I enjoy this forum though seldom post.
