I am a beginner and still have much to learn when it comes to orchids but I can tell you there are many different kinds all needing different care. Is there a tag that came with the orchid, possibly in the pot, that says what kind it is? The American Orchid Society link below has a great section that has culture sheets with pictures that might help you identify your orchid if there is no tag and give you an idea of its care. No big deal. It happens. In fact sometimes I intentionally plant smaller pots about an inch deep, just in case life gets in the way of my garden hobby. This way the little plant has a chance. If you had left the tomatoes on a table, they most likely would have dried out and died. So your golden. :) This will set them back bit, but better than dead plants. Right ? I would sick my spade down next to the pot and lift the whole business up. Then you have a better view and can decide if it looks more promising to just cut off everything under the pot, or cut the pot off in slices. I would want to pinch off the fruit and flowers, so the plant can get itself adjusted to being roughed up and get busy growing new roots and leaves. At my place, we call this " The insert your last name here hardiness test". If a plant can survive at least a month in a 4 inch pot here, it is worthy of living in my garden. A year is better. ;) ETA : Be sure to water the transplants in deeply and be sure they're not getting blasted by hot sun the first couple days. Just to clarify, I only placed them in my larger outdoor pots while I was outside. Somehow, they found their own way into my smaller- & medium-sized pots all on their own. Which happened while my plants were outdoors. I didn't even know that they were there until I went to soak my pots. And even then, there were only a few of them. All of which were a fraction of the size of the outdoor earthworms. No bigger than the ones in iamhopscotch's photos. They have been there for at least two years now and not once have they ever negatively affected the health of any of my plants. So I pretty much leave them alone. I don't use them to aerate my already fast-draining soil. And even if they "break down" the soil, "Earthworms leave behind excrement or castings containing from 5 to 11 times the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium they have ingested." All of which the plants can use.I repot my plants long before the soil gets depleted, and the old soil gets tossed out into the remote corners of my yard, along which whatever's inhabiting it. Even if my new, fresh potting soil were to somehow gain newer earthworms, I wouldn't go out of my way to try and rid them from my pots. People want to try and grow their plants in sterile environments, dousing their plants with fungicides and insecticides, and nature doesn't work like that. I'm not advocating putting earthworms in your indoor pots. I was simply stating that I found them in my indoor plants and never once have I encountered any problems from them being there. Sure, I placed them in my large, outdoor pots. But that was because those pots stay outdoors year-round. The smaller earthworms found their own way into my smaller pots, while those pots were outdoors. People claim that they can't survive living in containers, but the small ones in mine seem to do just fine. Even if they were to die, their remains end up breaking down into enriched nutrients that the plants can use.

Water it. The poor thing's dying of thirst. Your soil looks bone dry, I would soak the whole pot to ensure all of the soil gets saturated. Then I would drain it and flush it out with plenty of fresh water. When you water any plant, always flush out the whole pot with plenty of water. When you only give them tiny measured amounts of water, then the dissolved solids in that water quickly begins to accumulate because it can't drain away, making it crust over with that white mineral buildup that you were seeing. This makes it even more difficult for your plant to draw up the water it so desperately needs when you do water it. Flushing out the whole pot with plenty of fresh water prevents this from happening. On a side note, that's a cute table. I like the little feet on it, HaHa. :)
