black rot on grapes

i planted mars grapes last year and now had to cut off dozens of bunches of small green grapes-to-be because of black rot. i had expected beginners luck because of no previous years "mummies" to spread the infection, but i guess there were cane lesions. will spraying this year do anything about the cane lesions, or are they a permanent reservoir of fungus spores. i'm not sure its worth the effort to spray, and might just rip them out if they really need constant spraying. cornell's fact sheet made it sound like cane lesions were a continuous source of disease all season, much worse than from dropped infected fruit. why would a plant with affected fruit falling off not have cane lesions as well? is there some sort of renewal pruning, or a place to buy uninfected nursery stock?
