Does it really exist?

I have been trying to collect all different varieties of spider plants. I have been lucky enough to find every variety I have searched for, except the Hawaiian spider plant.

I have not been able to find it anywhere. I have searched the Internet for information on this plant. I cannot find any information on google. I have typed in "Hawaiian spider plant" and "Chlorophytum comosum Hawaiian" with no luck. The only information I find about this plant is on this forum.

I have even posted a post on the trading forum hoping someone would have some babies they would want to trade for some of my babies. No luck.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a true plant and if it even exists. Maybe there is another name for it that I'm not aware of?

Any help or information on this plant would be appreciated.

Sometime back I thought someone mentioned Brandywine Green as a favorite green-when-ripe tomato. Does this variety really exist? If anybody knows about it, I'd like to hear opinions and a source for seeds. Thanks. Lou **** I've never heard of a Brandywine Green Lou, but perhaps you have that confused with Cherokee Green which is a favorite of mine and many many other folks when it comes to a green when ripe. Sandhill Preservation lists lots of GWRipes and usually has it, but are out this year. Victory Seeds also lists it. And I'm sure there are others who oist it as well, but those two sources I do know of off the top of my head. Went to the site and none of the cans shown are what I remember. Went back to my stack of magazines and found the magazine that had fallen out of place. It's Krylon Outdoor Spaces. It's not widely available. Well not at the stores I normally shop at. So, Faron, does this appear to be superior to the rustoleum line? It specifically says an application is outdoor wicker. With regard to the DW, you want to secure it to the side cabinets not to the stone counter if at all possible. If you can't do it that way, then have them attach a piece of wood to the underside of the counter - don't let them drill into the counter - you risk cracking it.

What's the difference between a HI spider and common variegated? I found a spider in HD which looked shinier, thicker leaved..is this the HI? Toni

growhappy - What a beautiful plant you have! I believe I have seen that picture in another post on this forum while I was searching online. I would be delighted to have a baby from such a wonderful plant. Thank you for offering :)

Toni - It sounds like you did come across a Hawaiian spider plant. The leaves are much wider and thicker than the variegated spider plant. I no longer shop at my local HD for plants. The last time I was there, they had a really bad spider mite infestation. Maybe I should look. It would be worth it to me to fight off a spider mite infestation to have one of these beautiful plants.

WOW! What a beautiful plant!

I have learned something here. I was always under the impression that the solid green spider plants (wider leaves which are thicker, but no variegation) that I have are Hawaiian spider plants, but now I believe that I have been mistaken.

The Hawaiian SP sure is impressive! Thanks for sharing your photo and info.

Dawn, I found this plant at Lowes. It was an EA (Exotic Angel) plant. I bought it, but then I returned it. Now I wish I had kept it.

I think the thicker, wider leaf plant is the Hawaiian. I believe as the plant gets older, its more solid green. Its babies are usually variegated.

Thanks Susan..Wish I knew if I had the HI or not..it has thicker leaves, but could be due to recently being grown in Fl/CA. If it ever sprouts babies, and mom turns green, I'll know which it is..thanks, Toni

I'm no expert on the HI Spider plant but that is exactly what happened to mine. I really like the leaves but I believe my most favorite is the one with green(center) and white margins. It just seems to make a more compact, neater spider.

Susan, yrs ago, the green center w/white edge, the white center w/green edge, and of course green spiders were common..I had all 3, but the two variegated died..I wish we could still find plants they sold in the late 70's and 80's...I now wonder if any of those variegated were the HI types..or is this a new plant? Toni

I dunno but wish someone would come up with some hybrids, new colors, etc.

Hi,

Yes as GH stated it does exist as she has shown you in her pic. I found one today at lowes, it is an EA plant and I kinda laughed when I saw the tag they put with it. They called it a variegated Chlorophytum "Bonnie". As we all know "bonnie" spiderplants are the cute curly leaved spiderplant.

I wish I could find an all green spider! I have the 'Hawaiian', 'Bonnie' and green/white edged Comosum. Oh, and 'Fire Flash'.
