adding some color

I am very precious when it comes to my gnomes. Some folk like the aged look when it comes to their gnomes, but me, I like to give them a fresh coat of paint and brighten them up.

I found these guys at a garage sale last March and they've been sitting inside the house, in the living room on the window sill, waiting to be painted up. I finally got around to painting them and thought you may like to see them all gussied up.

I got this Merlin statue on ebay a couple of years ago for A DOLLAR! One of my best ebay purchases.

I decided he needed a paint job, too, and think he's ready for a special place in Our Lady Gardyn!

OH WOW! Those are awesome. I really love the Merlin Chair. I think he will be perfect in your garden. you are very talented when it comes to painting. I could never get the faces that perfect in a million years.

I can't wait to see pictures of them after they are placed in your garden.

Oh, lucky you!!! I keep hoping I'll find treasures like those, but so far nothing like those beautiful gnomes! Well, I did find one concrete wizard, he's on my deck in his natural state. Let me see if I can find a pic of him ...

OK, here's a pic, but not a very good one. He originally had a "crystal" ball (concrete) and it got broken off on the way to the flea market. That's how I got him for $5. I need to glue a marble or some kind of pretty orb onto his left hand. Does anyone know if GEII works on concrete to glass gluing? Any suggestions on what kind of glue to use?

Great restoration of the gnomes Cait, and a beautiful job on Merlin. $1 was a great price, just wondering what postage cost? Was the seller in Aus? Anyways, he was worth the postage with the great selling price!

Jan, I love the hayracks, too, but they have to be mounted to a flat surface with screws. No way around it because they are not made to accomodate over the railing brackets. On the back, the top horizontal metal piece is shaped like this _________^_____________^__________. Those 2 little blips up are what you screw under. (I've worked in garden centers so got to know some of the types out there). Just a note - Boston ferns don't do well in full sun. Your picture looks pretty bright. I can't tell if you have trees in the front, but without shade, the fern leaves will be nicely browned by July. Plus, they aren't hardy for the north central zones so us northerners need to treat them as annuals unless you bring them indoors over the winter. I hear what you are saying about covering the brick, but if you have small/medium shrubs in front of the railing, you'd have the variety of a bit of height and the brick. Ideas for shrubs that do well in both the Twin Cities and Chicago so they should work for you are: Spirea - can be trimmed to stay lower hydrangeas - Endless summer don't have enough growing season in our climates to get huge but they need shade potentilla - yellow flower barberry -both a cranberry and a green/yellow variety alpine currant northern grown viburnum (Emerald Triumph) ninebark - The Diablo species has a maroon/green left with red flowers. I have 2 on either side of our back door. Will get taller and would work at the left corner of your house lilacs - again taller so would be better for corners You could also go with sedum as they can stay in place over the winter but add a bit of height. What part of WI are you in? Anywhere near Hudson or Hayward?

You have a beautiful kitchen. Rather than painting the back of your cabinets, accessorize them with colorful plates and appliances. Something that you can change as your taste changes. At the most I suggest that you cut out foam core sheets to the size of the back of your shelves and wall paper or paint them. See how they look. Again, Change them out as you desire. But I would not touch the surface of your laminate cabinets or shelves.

Love that bed, those curtains and a classic look! Hard to tell colors in the curtains, but maybe a soft blush or cream for paint? We changed my youngest daughters room four different times throughout her years. Paint and comforters, tried to stick with furniture pieces that would age with her. At one point, she had pink, lime, purple and zebra! She picked it out and loved it at the time, but looking back- I'm not sure how she fell asleep, I know it jarred my senses when I was in there! She's evolved to a more 'serene' style in her college years, thank goodness!

I think probably some kind of mortar would be best with concrete. Thin set probably.

LOL!! I was gonna ask, "WHAT the HECK are you guys still doing up??" But it's me who's up late... nearly 1 AM now and I need to git to bed cuz I'm getting s l e e e p y!!

Micki - I can't wait to have a weed-free area so I can set up my Gnome Garden. Started clearing the debris today but it's gonna take awhile. Huge mess in that part of the yard.

Tenderlee - try the GEII. Worst that'll happen is the marble will fall off. I think your wizard guy is ADORABLE!!

I LOVE these concrete gnomes. Unfortuantely, it is not very often I see them, but when I do I snatch 'em up. I paid $5 each for them and they are well worth it. I felt so lucky when I got them.
They NEVER post concrete things on ebay in Australia. Someone in Queensland (very far away from me - I'm just outside of Melbourne... like the distance between NY and Fla - was selling 3 concrete gnomes and I BEGGED her (via email) to mail them and that I didn't care how much that would be and she still said NO! So I couldn't bid on them. I was so ticked off. The guy selling Merlin lived about an hour's drive from my house. I bought other stuff from him, too, really cheap prices b/c he wanted to get rid of stuff. Maybe I'll get around to painted those and show ya'll.

Now I'm off to bed. NITEY NITEY!!

Your painting skills are excellent. I too like to repaint things then I can give them an antique wash if I need to age them. I couldn,t even see the little brown rabbit until you repainted them. You are good, girl-l-l-l-l!!!

I would use GE Sil. II as well because it dries clear. Imagine what that glue was originally designed for. Caulking around doors and window frames (wood, metal, fiberglass, glass ect). Many of those windows and doors are set into concrete/brick buildings. Love your statue!

Wow! I would have left them as they were, but after seeing your painting skills, no way. Great job.
Go ahead and use the GE silicone. It will do the job.

Cait! Those look great! I miss You so!..It's going to take me forever to catch up, I needed some motivation..so I came here..I knew it would be the right place! I know I have missed out on sooo much! I have some project ideas in the works..so you maybe be seeing me post more often...I have a sort of Crafters ADD and can't keep up with my projects and myself and ideas! So many ideas for one person to do alone...will you consider moving to the states and crafting with me?..LOL...Miss ya!

Susie Sunshine - the other day DH was looking at the lookout tower on the mountain we can see from our house. He said it looked different. So I googled it to see if there had been any changes made and someone did a you tube movie about it. And the music they chose? "Yellow Rose of Texas"!! Was that a hint or what?!

You know, I think so many people - myself included - like garden statues to have that aged, faded look because we could never paint them well to save our lives! You did an awesome job on all of them! They will look wonderful in your garden.

Barefootin ... LOL about the Crafters ADD, I can relate, and it's one of the reasons I come here!

Thanks to all of you who gave me the good advice on gluing the crystal ball onto the wizard ... now to find the perfect crystal ball for his little hand (stump lol).

Oh, and Cait, if I could paint like you, my wizard would be painted up right now! You bring your pieces to life with the paint!
