Does anyone know how to root a jasmine duke?

I cut two cuttings from my mature plant, and have had cuttings in water for about 3 weeks. Alot of the leaves are shriviling up and turning brown and falling off. Am I doing something wrong?

I really want to root one, I love these plants..

How much of the foliage did you leave on your cuttings....and how big were those cuttings? And why did you put the cutting in water?

Anyway, cuttings should probably be no more than 3 to 4 inches long with most of the foliage removed. Insert the stem 1/2-way into a moist medium and water well in order to ensure that the cuttings are snugged in tightly. Some would use a rooting hormone, as this plant has a bit of a reputation of being a bit difficult.

Your rooting medium can be your gritty mix, or a perlite and peat mix, plain vermiculite, etc. Maintain the cutting in a warm, but not sunny location, and keep the medium moist but never soggy. It could take a couple of months for the cuttings to 'take'.

Do NOT keep pulling on the cuttings to check the status of the roots (the action will break off any root hairs that may have developed). Rather, wait until you see some new growth on your cutting.

I think it might be too late now to have mine root, since I already chopped my plant down back then.
Next time I will know..
I put them in water because I didn't come here and ask first, thinking that this was how most cuttings were rooted other than succulants..Bad me..
They are about 5 inches tall, and I took all the leaves off up 3 inches from the bottom at the time..

they are all doing o.k. someone in garden web suggested that it was just waiting for a warm spell 80's and up.. he or she was exactly right.. the immature buds suddenly turn into a very fragrant flower... i have around 5 grand duke that was originaly in a 1 gallon container only 1 died during the rainy winter... they grow really slow.. they are all grown in containers. they are now transfered to 5 gallon pots... last year i couldnt decide if im willing to pay $80 for a 7 ft grand duke on a 9 gallon pot.. now that its giving me flowers everyday the money spent is well worth it.. there are some medium size available at our local nursery green thumb in canoga park for $22 4 ft. skinny plant.. ill see if i can post a pic of it

I know Carol.. and I can understand the curiosity. I started the research for these names 5-6 yrs ago and have now ended up with a huge collection of jasmines and then some :) I am a jasmine junkie too..lol! I have french perfume jasmines called as jasminum grandiflorum french perfume(flora plena) which is a double and jasminum grandiflorum a single from logees. Both of them are vigorous bloomers in summer and do not require chilling period for blooms. The nurseries sell them with different names but essentially they all are cultivars of jasmineum officianale. I love the single variety a little better. The blooms are bigger for this cultivar. Accents sells a single variety called as jasminum officianale or poet's jasmine which has smaller bloom. They also have double variety and call it as jasmine officianale grandiflora-french perfume. Hi Karen I use lots of fertilizer on mines..I use Foliage Pro and Neptunes Harvest and it has been cut back twice..How funny is that the same pot? That is just weird. Great minds think a like) It's hard to explain my 100 year old one..I let it dry out too much the past week and and its leaves and flowers dried off. Ugh. Did not know the sun was that hot in a south window in December. I always underestimate the suns strength and get lazy about watering at times..I will take a pic once it's up in bloom again which should not take too long. I can share a cutting or two with you on this one too. Yes, I agree, spring sounds like a good idea. Just remind me about that time and I will send them when you do. In the mean time take good care of yourself and keep posting your pretty plants too. Did that San's you water rooted ever grow for you? I have accidentally broken of Duke's stems. These are very small too, no longer than 4 inches. I removed any lower leaves and stuck them inside the same pot as the parent. So far, after a month, these cuttings are still alive, very healthy looking. They haven't grown new leaves yet though.
