Hand Pollination -- Feijoa and Passionfruit

OK, I'm hoping somebody out there has some experience with this...

I have a sunroom loaded with fruit-producing plants. They do well, and most fruit every year, including many different citrus, two kinds of guavas, pomegranates, and white sapote.

But the feijoa and passionfruit are puzzling me -- lots of flowers that I have been hand-pollinating, but no fruit yet, and both are supposedly self-fertile (Nazemetz feijoa and Frederick passionfruit). What's going on?

Is there a trick to this hand pollination thing (time of day, special spot on stigma, etc.)? Was I sold mislabeled plants?

Maybe someone out there has come to learn that these named cultivars are not truly self-fertile, and if this is the case, are there any ideas as to appropriate pollinating companions for these two plants?

Or am I looking at this all wrong, and simply expecting too much from plants that may have low rates of fruit set? I don't know, but it's frustrating to see hundreds of feijoa blossoms, and dozens of passion flowers, wither up and fall off without producing fruit.

Any info is greatly appreciated

Thanks
