What's happening to my pear and apple tree leaves?

Hi all,

I'm seeking to know what might be causing some severe damage to my new apple and pear tree's leaves. The leaves look tattered with some dark black edges on the pears. The apples have orange-brown leaves. I haven't been able to locate insects. Below are two pictures showing the damage (hopefully!I'm having trouble posting pictures sorry).

What is causing this and what organic methods can I use to help my trees out?

I don't think anything serious, not sure really but looks like you
have deer pruning and damage going on, when they do that
before the buds are open, some of it gets damaged and when
leafs open up they look damaged like yours,.. I see this on my trees sometimes.
Otherwise your leafs look pretty good.

The first picture didn't seem so bad. Just the effects of growing in the sun, rain and wind. Maybe a bit of fungus here, a bit of wind damage there, a hungry caterpillar maybe and a burnt leaf or two.
The second picture is more serious. You have a deer. It (or they) is very likely to return again and again, especially as we go into summer and tender, green vegetation becomes scarcer. Expect return visits for all remaining green leaves.

I figured the third was rust, but can't figure out the other two. The trees are new, so we didn't get any apples to check for scab. I don't think that's it though. I'm surprised to see any diseases because I followed advice on here and did a recommended spray schedule with captan since right after dormancy. Any ideas on the other two pics? Is there a better fungicide to use?

They both look like plums of some sort, they are not sweet or sour cherries. Lets go through some of the problems. The little black bugs and yellow eggs are ladybug larvae and eggs. Those are the "good guys" eating the aphids, don't pull them off. The dead looking branches are probably due to brown rot blossom blight. It will feel slippery when wet if its brbb. The holes in the leaves are some form of shot hole. The galls are probably from some kind of mite. Its hard to tell what the long-term chances of the trees are but they need to get on a spray program if you want to keep them. Read up on these diseases/pests and their treatment, ask more questions if you have them! Scott

Well, very unfortunate, Suzi, sorry to hear that. Be sure to treat your Anna as well. Both tree make some decent apples, and they are our "early" low chill apples. But, I would consider putting in a couple of later apples. I would recommend Fuji and PInk Lady (Cripps). If you think Anna tastes good, you'll flip over Fuji. Fuji is an A++ in flavor, compared to Anna, which would be a B. No comparison. Same for Pink Lady, just a really nice apple. Plus ,you'd then have early and late apples, sort of nice to have. I don't know why I didn't consider deer. I noticed the tipping but didn't think it was deer browsing. We are trying to take care of that problem with our dog and repellants now.

Glad to know that the rest of the leaf problems are nothing serious or unusual though! Thanks for the help!
