Ponytail palm plant problem

junkjunkie

I have a large ponytail palm that I've had for 7 years. It appears healthy, but I noticed that the new leaves on the top are breaking or splitting at the base of the leaf. A couple were hanging by a thread so I cut them off. Also, some of he bottom leaves have browning at the tips..so I cut the brown tips off. Is that ok? Why would the newer leaves be breaking off like that? I repotted the plant a little over a year ago. It's not a super fast grower. Thank you.
