Not entirely sure on this, but I think if the branches are still green, they're still alive.

Humidity is important, but it's only part of the situation -- they also like cool temperatures and good air circulation. I also have the general impression that they don't like to be bumped around much -- if it's near a high-traffic space where people brush against it a lot, that might be some of the problem as well. The light sounds okay, as far as I can tell from your description -- they like bright light but not necessarily sun (though I have a couple small ones that do get sun for part of the day, maybe 4 hours, and they seem fine with it).

It's also possible that the plant isn't being watered often enough, but I hesitate to say so because overwatering would be much worse than underwatering.

How big is the plant? How large of a pot is it in?

It sounds like your plant is not getting enough light. Since we don't know the condition of the potting medium, no one can speak to that issue. NIPs are also notorious spider mite magnets, which would certainly cause the symptoms you describe.

The tree is about 3 feet tall. I water it once a week. The soil isn't dried out when I water it so I don't think that's the problem. It's in a 12 inch high pot with a 12 inch circumference.

I place mine outdoors (North side) for the summer and it LOVES it....you might want to try that.

Mike I agree with setting outside in shady area..In winter, NP needs cool temps..Keep outside as long as possible.
Since they're slow-growing, they require little fertilizer..
I haven't had one in yrs, (gave mine to a friend because of size) I'd add Iron twice a year..Either Sulfate or Chelate. I also used a high nitrogen, but half dossage fertilizer, every other month from May-Sept.
A 12" diameter pot is pretty big. What material is the pot? Also, I suggest a well-draining soil..though NP's don't like soil to dry out too much, they can't survive in muddy soil either..
If you haven't access to a yard, how about a balcony/porch? NP's do need sunlight..Good luck, Toni

Hi .. I have a NIP that is 7 years old. Its never been repotted & the roots are coming out of the bottom. I'd like to repot it. Is there a store bought potting soil I can use instead of trying to mix up my own. I have on hand cactus potting soil, Schultz regular potting soil & some perlite. Thanks. Janice

The pot appears to be glass or some shiny and smooth glazed green pottery. There's a patio in back north side of the building but it gets sun there in the morning from the east. How much direct sun can it take? I think it's only hope is to stay the summer outside.

I take care of the plants at the office but somebody bought this thing and thought it would look great but realistically I can't think of anywhere in the office that will ever meet it's light and humidity needs. If it makes a comeback I suppose I'll get a pebble tray for humidity.

Janice, I checked 2 plant books..One said repot in Coniforius soil, the other says use 1 part organic soil, 1 part peat, and one part coarse sand.I don't know what coniforius soil is exactly, but seen if or sale at HD.

Mike, According to 3 books, NIP's can live in medium to bright light including some direct sun..I don't think a north sun will harm it, though do so gradually..
They prefer cool temps and humidity..so spray..if you keep it outside, while watering lawn, garden, run hose over foliage. Toni
