It's not easy being me

Anyone that know's me will tell you there's a good chance I'll kill a silk plant. Thus so my story goes or so I thought. My dear SIL gave me some of her daisies to try my hand at. I was so proud of them, for 2 weeks I've babied them, watered and pampered them. Today when I went to look at them, I was shocked- I found out I'm good at growing WEEDS! Someday's it's not easy being me.

We must be related. However, I will say that since being a part of this garden Web I have learned a lot. I actually have a few things growing this year. I started with baskets of Boston Ferns. LOL. Then LindaSewandSew sent me some succulents. Now I've moved on to roses, sunflowers and Cannas. Gourds and punkins are accidentally growing in my compost pile. Learned it all here. Keep diggin'.

Thanks for your comments everybody! Of course, IÂd like to address BrentÂs nude rumour, first Â lol. So *thatÂs* what it is Â let me tell you though, IÂm not sure if theyÂre looking at me, or me swatting the mosquitoes. And, I have to admit, it *is* quite a sight when I prune the climbing rosesÂ Mary, I agree that we shouldnÂt care what other people think of us; but the reactions make me wonder. IÂm in really close proximity to my other neighbours, so there isnÂt much privacy. Anyway, itÂs been going on for a long while, and I have developed a thicker skin. But, I will do my best to buck up my snark (you had me googling snarkÂ). : ) The rest of you guys Â thanks so much for the encouraging words, too, and the quote, mjsee. Ianna, I think thatÂs it Â breaking from the traditional is uncomfortable for a lot of people. I think youÂre right, too, that they admire the garden; but fear the work. They probably canÂt understand how a person can spend so much time and energy digging in the dirt and looking at plants. Gardengal Â ÂmyÂ delivery people always end up commenting, too. Just yesterday someone working at my next door neighbourÂs house made some nice comments Â and he also referred to amount of work that must go into it. Again, IÂm sure this is part of why people donÂt understand; and thatÂs why I get the Âlook away from the lightÂ kind of stunned looks every now and then. But, I won't dwell on it; and I was just wondering if this happens to any one else - which I suspected it must.

I think manufacturing a repairable fixture/item is very much a green issue. I've worked in both industrial engineering and quality control and can tell you, in an effort to manufacture economical ........read as cheap........products the bottom line is obtaining components living up to a guarantee as cheaply as possible. That means when they are tested they need to work "x" number of years. Anything more, and any more price for it is overkill. Several members of my family used to purchase a certain brand of pour through coffee maker. It seemed to die for them in a relatively short period of time. It was inexpensive enough that they just kept buying new ones. Repair was done through the manufacturer only and was nearly as expensive as a new one. I tore mine apart, found the nasty little component and ordered a handful of them at one dollar a piece and fixed mine repeatedly until the unit was ancient. It made me very mad to think of all the ones ending up in landfills for want of a one dollar part. I'm afraid this is become way too common. That's a green issue of large magnitude.

I love 'Hiacynthia' even if it's not so showy---I think the coloration is so subtle--especially late in the day when the sun is lower, it takes on the look of blue green suede! Sighhhh! The same sort of subtleness of 'Regal Gold'--very difficult to capture on film!!! And I've wanted 'Permanent Wave' for awhile--I need to break down and just get it!!!! :o) REALLY neat 'Dream Weaver' Phil--any rain of any significance yet--I hate to ask--fearing the answer!!!!! I can grow a lot of other things but
succulents are not one of them-LOL I
do have one of the 'hen and chicks'
family that will live for me but it
is not the one shown mostly on this forum.
That one dies, because (I guess) it is
too humid here for it!

LOL, Wants, you're a girl after my own heart. Or black thumb I should say. I do ok with green plants, but flowers pretty much hate me. And I found out last year I can kill Hens n Chicks pretty fast too. Dang.
But if you are killing SILK plants, you are definitely Queen of this 'club'. LOL.

Daisies don't like to be messed with, they love little water & to be forgotten. If they wilt & fall over, water them.Mine are called" Alaska"they smell! I don't remember the ones back home having a weird smell. We used to bring them in & I'd sit right in front of several in a vase while the couple of drops of food color in the water changed the white flowers to red(pink), blue, green or yellow, probably for mom's bridge club tables!! Don't think I would have sat there if they smelled lousy. Do some not smell? I'd get rid of mine & get those! Jan

I have a black thumb where roses are concerened. I love 'em but they don't love me. someday, I will conquer their death!

hey Wants, I saw a garden sign that I was thinking I should put in my yard...you might get a kick out of it too.
