I'm so sorry that you've hurt yourself! I had missed you in the last week or so on the forum anyway....hope you get lots of rest and feel better very soon! Keep that ankle elevated and iced! Hopefully your kids will be the maids for the next few days! Feel better soon! :-)

Oh Micki broken little toes are so painful, I did that once Please stay off of it as long as you can. The part I hated most was when the ER doctor put my toe back in place with no pain killers. That hurt!

Glad you found a bargain for the crutches I cannot believe they wanted to charge you $10 to rent a pair!

Wow, Micki, you did quite the number on your foot. And nothing makes one appreciate a toe till they deal with a broken one!!! OUCH. I tripped over one of my dogs once, and slammed my toe straight into a wall trying to keep my balance. Never knew something so little could hurt so bad, for so long. You have my sympathy.
Glad you got crutches for such a great price.

OHHHHH, that really hurts! sorry for your 'stubbing!' UGH! Glad your EX could help you out finding the crutches...yeah, TS's are very helpful for many things. As nana said, keep elevated & iced & off as much as you can...time for the kids to pamper you! Take care, Jeanne S.

Sorry you are laid up! is it your driving foot? that makes it even worse. TS's are great, when I broke my right wrist & right foot up by ankle I treated it myself- don't recommend that but I had no insurance & I knew they were going to take me into surgery for my wrist. I stablized it with ace bandage & 3 tongue depressers. After 3-4 days I wanted something a little more secure so hobbled into TS got a leather & steel wrist support & some heel cups (I had slipper on that foot) the heel cups are a thick lambs wool like stuff with a rough outside . I knew they would wear out fast & they only had 3 of them so I got out the grey duct tape, well that almost killed me as duct tape pretty well takes 2 hands to pull it out & you have to hold it & cut it. Anyway it took long time but I covered the bottom of the heel thing with duct tape, it cushions the poor sore foot & without it I would have been laid up a long time. I couldn't use crutches or a walker. I hopped about at end of 12 weeks went to chiropractor & asked him if he would x- ray that was bit of a shock! both bones had broke 1/2 way between wrist & elbow & were doing nicely went back where they should be, but both bones broke off at wrist 1 on inside of arm was healing well outside bone was a lump in my hand that dissolved eventually & I grew a covering for the missing bone so it quit feeling like my hand was missing after several months. Moral is don't treat yourself & more important don't look down when coming down a ladder beside a brick divider!! So Micki see if you can get ahold of some of those heel cups as it really makes it so much better while healing! Prayers for speedy recovery!! Jan

In 1987, I was at a fence place scrounging pieces of fencing (with permission) and stepped backward off a loading dock with an armload of short pieces of cedar.
Sprained the left ankle (but didn't drop the boards! LOL)
Drove home and had Bill take me to the Naval hospital emergency room. They x-rayed-wasn't broken-but they said it was so badly sprained that I would have been better off if I had broken it. Put it in a half-cast, with an ace bandage. That lasted about an hour after I got home, before I had a panic attack from being 'confined'. Took the ace bandage off and just sat with it in the half cast.
We had to cancel a craft show, and Bill was out working with the table saw and nicked the bone on the end of one finger. Of course, it was MY fault he did that because he wouldn't have been home if I hadn't hurt myself--Grin. The next 3 or 4 weeks at our shows, we took an office chair on wheels and I just rolled myself around while setting up and tearing down. I could still paint and wait on customers. That ankle is still stiff, because I missed all the therapy sessions doing shows.

We all have things that we have done to ourselves, I guess!

Smickerdoodle, I am so sorry to hear you hurt yourself! OUCH on the broken toe and sprain! I have stubbed my toe pretty badly and it can be an excruciating pain. Like nonacook, I badly sprained an ankle once. I didn't step off a loading dock though, I fell going down some stairs. Slipped on the edge of a stair and slid down with my one foot under me all the way. When I bounced onto the landing (thank God there was a landing and the stairs continued around the corner)I looked at my ankle and that big round bone that is ordinarily on the outside of the ankle was on top of my foot! I dragged myself up the stairs and into my bedroom where I flopped onto the bed to recuperate. When I looked at the ankle again, the bone was back where it should be. Went to the ER and found out I had a very bad sprain. Like nonacook, I learned that a bad sprain is worse than a broken bone too!

I hope you are able to master crutches better than I could and experience a speedy and painless recovery! You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Sorry to hear about your injury. Stubbing toes has got to be one of the worst pains... akin to hitting your funny bone!

I think it's time you stayed away from the weights!! It's quite obvious that they are a hazard to your well being! HA!!

Thanks for all of you well wishes everyone. It has been a long weekend. I was supposed to work yesterday but my boss scheduled my sub so I came home. The kids saw this as an opportunity to get me to go to the Oriental Market in Ypsilanti. We shopped there for about 2 hours. By the time we got home I was whipped. They put all the groceries away while I took a nap. Then we went to church last night. By the time I got across the huge parking lot I felt like I had run a marathon. I forgot how much easier it is to walk than to use crutches. Last night my favorite local band was playing at the local bar and a friend of mine was tending bar so I went up and sat on a barstool for a couple of hours drinking pepsi and listening to the music and chatting with friends that I haven't seen in a while. By the time I went to bed last night my foot was throbbing again. Today I have done very little. My back, shoulders and upper arms are aching from using the crutches and it hurts to be on my feet without the crutches....so I am just sitting watching tv. I am so bored today. I never watch tv unless I am doing something else as well. Not sure I am ready for work tomorrow on these crutches....
