I didn't know your son has been having eye problems. What happened that he has burns that have affected his eyesight? I will say some prayers for him for sure. God never is limited to the number of miracles he can do. For us sometimes teh answer is yes and right away, sometimes yes and a long way off. Some answers are straight up no's. WE'll be praying for the first though.

Thanks, Jules. As some of the members already know, I'll give you a brief version. Six years ago, Jason's patrol car was rear-ended and exploded. He was burned over 35% of his body. His entire head literally melted from FOURTH degree burns. We didn't even know there was such a thing, tho we found out that's because no one had ever survived them before. He nearly lost his hands, his eyesight, and his life. 4 months in a medical coma, years of surgeries (50), and now sometimes problems arise. He's been featured on Discovery Extreme Surgery which reruns often (show write up mentions an ex FBI man who does work now with disfigured people, but most of the show is on Jason)
If you "google" Jason Schechterle there are many, many pages on him. Its been one heck of a journey, for all of us. He's my youngest, was 28 when this happened.

WOW! Thanks for the Quick Readers Digest Version! Oh yeah, I 'Googled" about him and foudn many articles! What an amazing amazing life! There are no words to properly describe his heart and attitude. I know what a precious thing his sight is so he can read to his kids. I appreciate so much how his wife firmly nudges him to deal with it as the article says. My prayers are goign up for him.....

Just a short update but no real news yet. They ordered the special eyedrops again and he should have them by tomorrow (they are made up using his own blood and done back East for that matter). He sees the eye doc on Thurs.
If this is like past times, it is just a "wait and see" if the drops work and his eyesight is restored in that eye again. Because Jason survived something no one else had, he's often been uncharted territory for his doctors. They have taken chances on experimenting with him and as I said before, he's gotten a LOT of miracles. He is now legally blind, but his eye doc (a few years ago) found if Jason wears TWO pair of contacts in each eye---one soft and one hard--his vision is literally 20-20. But he can't have the contacts in more than 8 hrs or he gets eye infections. That is why he had to take medical retirement from being a homocide detective a year ago. His eyes were at risk from long hours on the job with contacts in.
His wife has been amazing as well as he has. They are true soul mates, who live life to the fullest and laugh daily.
She calls him "Sparky" in fact, to show their sense of humor. Jason feels there's nothing he can't do in spite of his eyes and hands, he just finds other ways to do stuff if necessary. He again can play golf with his dad and friends, and play it almost as well as ever. Shooting in the 70s as he once did. He amazes me daily.

Thanks for the update, Karen! I hope Jason licks one more adversity and recovers quickly. If not, I am confident he has the ability to overcome yet one more obstacle with courage and grace. Jason and your entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers!

I really appreciate all the prayers for Jason. His eye doctor said that his eye doesn't look as bad this time as it did last year when this happened. So he thinks the eye drops will work and maybe within a few weeks.

St. Michael is the Patron Saint of police officers, so anytime you have a few extra prayers, you might send them to him for all those who put their lives on the line daily for us. "To Protect and Serve" are words officers literally live by. They are everyday heroes in my book.

Saw your son in action on 48 Hours last night. My DH loves that show, but I seldom watch it. I told DH "That's Purplemoon's son!" and he said "WHO???" :) I had to tell him Karen's son, from Garden Web...and told him the whole story :) We both wish Jason the best!

Jason had often been in my thoughts and prayers; I'm so very sorry to hear he's having more eye problems, and glad you asked here for prayers. I will be saying a lot more and asking friends to lift him up in theirs. I will ask that God will continue to bless him (you too- it has to be sooo tough for you.) He's gotta' be a HERO to anyone who's ever heard his story!

God's perfect plan was certainly at work when He brought Jason's wife into his life, let him live when no one thought he would or could, gave him to courage to go on despite horrid burns, unimaginable pain, all those operations. I believe other miracles await him as well. May God's blessings continue to pour down on Jason!
