Straw mulch on strawberries during summer?

I have a strawberry bed that I planted SFG-style, it's 2'x7' and I have about 45 Ozark Beauty plants with a few borage mixed in. I have had a lot of straw covering another bed and I'm about to remove it to plant in the other bed. Does anyone put straw in a strawberry patch as mulch during the summer? I live in zone 8 with brutal summers, and once the sun hits the bed there's no break in direct sunlight till late evening. I feel like a little layer of straw for mulch would help keep the soil cool and moist, but since strawberry foliage is so low to the soil, I don't know if potentially moist straw could lead to diseases or fungus on the strawberries or the foliage. Any experience or insight on this?
