My potted bell pepper plants are covered in ants. What now?
Comments (1)Set a liquid ant bait pack (Terro makes them) next to the pot. It's perfectly safe & will only take a day or so to rid the area of ants. Comments (9)There are many ways to get rid of fire ants. You can use a mixture of sugar and borax. Pour the mixture around the ant hills, and the ants will carry it inside the colony, killing it off. Another solution is the sugar substitute, Equal or Nutri-Sweet. These have been known to be poisonous to ants. Just pour it around the hill and you will see little any bodies laying around in a couple days. Like the others have said, if it's garden ants let them be - unless it's a huge infestation. Comments (8)After my intial post on this subject, I searched termites on the web and what I have looks exactly like termites. They don't have wings, don't jump and the soil has been allowed to dry in between waterings. The one pot I had sitting on a wire bench and tunnel like things were protruding from the bottom of it. I touched them with gloved hands and they disintegrated like fine dust with tiny white spots in it-possibly termite eggs? I don't know but so far that's what it appears to be. Some information I found online said that termites do live in soil. I'll try to get a photo of the insects and post it tomorrow. Comments (10)The house has ants. We've had them in various rooms over the years. Seems we get rid of them in one room and they return in a different room. I followed the trail from the infested pot to the glass deck door where my setup is. Some of the plants were outside but have been inside since October and that particular phal has never been outside. In this case I believe my house gave my plant ants! I've had bait out for a month but I think I have to change brands. I was about to use orthene but the smell was too noxious for me so I sprayed with orange guard. The ants moved to a different pot! Grrr...See Morebirdsnblooms
