Well yes that is a Ti plant. The problem is probably a combination of things. Ti Plants do not like it inside the house. They like it outside. Its generally a little too dry for them inside. They will respond to a significant change in their humidity levels by doing just what they are doing...dropping leaves and getting leaves with brown edges. Depending on the soil in the container and its composition, watering once a week could be too often. You need to check the soil at the bottom of the container where the holes are and see if its waterlogged. You can try misting the plant several times a day, but the best thing is to put it back outside. They like really good air circulation, and are spider mite magnets in the house. Ti respond to different lighting conditions depending on the cultivar. Some can sit out in full sun, some like half day sun, and some like bright diffused light. There are several that will lose a lot of their color if they don;t get enough light. Ti's are hardy to about 30F. We plant them out in the ground here, and they may defoliate in the average frost, or even freeze to the ground in a hard freeze, but they almost never fail to re-grow. If I were you I would keep it outside as much as I could, like as a porch or entryway plant, and only bring it in when its in danger of freezing

Im not up on the names-Home Depot just prices them. But,the only Ti that has legs for a long life are the green leafed ones. I have found that the others are like longest lived annuals-last years,add a few feet of trunk...then one year that trunk melts in weather it had survived before. And the brown edged leaves only happen on the colorful Ti's also. Just not humid enough even in coastal California. I have some-they dont compare at all to Florida or Hawaiin plants. But put two or three pots close and you get a nice look. btw-there is a new one to show up at H.D. dark burgundy and larger leafed than most. I might try that one. If I only get a summer out of it-plenty exotic enough.

Josh, no determination has been made as to Birdman's pH of his water. Just that it is municipal water. And he doesn't need to test it, just contact his municipal water district for the pH value. If his water is 7.2 or below, no need to add any vinegar. I consistently water all my container citrus with my municipal water out of a hose which is about 8.0 (acceptable range is 7.8 to 8.5 for my WD) with zero issues in micro uptake (see photos above). I pot my plants in EB Stone Cactus Mix, which I believe is on the acidic side with Fir Bark, Lava Rock, Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss, Sand, Redwood Compost and Mushroom Compost, and eventually, I'll have to re-pot, if the soil starts to degrade and compact, or the trees get too big for their current pots, so that will start the cycle all over again, as far as total soil pH goes for me. If you feel better about acidifying your water, you can do that, but citrus are remarkably adaptable plants. I think we are probably more guilty of "over love" sometimes, with container citrus. From what I see with Birdman's tree and fruit, I am still concerned that he is dealing with Phytophthora. He needs to contact his extension agent and get a definitive diagnosis. If it is Phytophthora, he really should consider replacing the potting soil (despite this perhaps not being the best time to re-pot, it now becomes essential to remove the organism from the soil and exposure to the roots), and then treat the canopy as well, with Agri-Fos, which actually travels down to the roots, and continues to protect the roots from any leftover Phytophthora. We're sort of swerving away from Birdman's original concerns of his infected fruit, and overall poor condition of his little tree. All fruit really should be removed to help the tree survive, which I know is hard to do, but the tree is struggling to be healthy and putting all its energies into trying to produce fruit at the detriment of the tree's overall health and vigor. pH isn't the issue here, I don't think. Jen, it's been a while since I had a Ti, but living in IL, mine had to come indoors in winter. Once spring came, I set out in 'full sun'. The more sun colors are more pronounced.. In winter, I use a humidifier, mist daily, and only water when soil feels dry..(also in summer) Overwatring will cause root rot. The sad thing growing Ti's indoors is they're prone to spider mites..So, check plant thoroughly. Some mites are difficult detecting..especially in early stages. and we all know how destructive those little critters are. Good luck, Toni
