black insect eggs on Carmen Jewel cherry

I recently noticed some black insect eggs on a new leaf of my 20" high Carmen Jewel cherry bush. The eggs are about the size of the beads used in Indian beadwork or sesame seeds. They are fairly neatly arranged. I was going to pick off the leaf and destroy it, but I thought they might be beneficial insects, since I avoid using insecticides. The Carmen Jewel cherry isn't supposed to be troubled by the common cherry pests. Does anyone have any idea what these eggs might be? Thanks. Northwoodswis
