Howdy Maid. The spot sounds perfect. Actually, in sumemer, if Grape Ivy is placed in direct s or w sunlight, leaves tend to wilt, they needs more water.
With humidity from the shower/bath, and the skylight, plus north window, it should do fine.
In summer, if your plants are kept indoors, keep watch on the soil. GI's are thirsty plants..

Thanks Toni, I thought it would do well there, but thought I would check first. It will be setting, I don't hang plants anymore,I guess w/my decor it doesn't really go, and I have flash backs of my 70's jungle everytime I entertain the thought of hanging them. Ivy & grape ivy are not the same plant. Grape Ivy is related to grapes, thus the name. I've found Cissus to require a lot of light, I'm not sure a north facing window would do.

Nope, Grape Ivy isn't a true ivy..Grape Ivy is a Cissus. Yep, same family as grapes. Edible fruit.
Guess they coined it grape ivy because, 'grape' family, and 'ivy' it hangs. Nope, it's not an ivy, not Hedera Helix or any of its relatives.

I recently read an article about Grape Ivy, (reason is, an Ebay seller has one I'm interested in purchasing,) before Debi started this thread.

About sunlight, it's been years since I've had a GI, (after reading the article, I now know the reason they're not sold.)
Years ago, when my GI was placed in too sunny a window, the leaves crinkled. Afterwards, it was hung in an east window, (obstructed) which was equivlant to north, it did great..I had it for many years, pinched regularly, took cuttings, until it reached the floor.

When my ex and I separated, the idiot hung a blanket on the window, covering the grape ivy. It was so cold, the leaves glued to the glass. It froze and died. Another reason he's an ex.

If Debi's north window is bright, her GI should thrive. If it grows spindly, a brighter window might be necessary, but if her window is unobstructed, plant rotated and pinched, it should be fine Toni

Hi ladies, well it really doesn't matter at this point. I went out and bought a GI, so I thought. It was the plant I wanted, but when I got home, I saw a post from Mentha, saying they didn't like low light. So, I did a search and come to find out it isn't a GI after all, it is Cissus Mombiafolia (Ellen Danica). And they require a bit more light than this spot can provide, so. . . still on the hunt for a plant that will do well in a N facing window.

Debi, I forgot to ask..You said you had an African Violet in this window..How did it do?
AV's need quite a bit of light, especially for flowering. If your AV survived, your GI will.

Do you consider this window bright? Is there curtains or blinds? Toni

My AV did survive there. It's a good healthy plant, but I was advised on here to move it to more sun as it hasn't bloomed since I got it. I put it in a west window with sheer curtains to filter the intense light.

I do consider this a bright window where the ivy will live. There is a blind and sheer curtain, but I pull the blind up and pull the curtain to the opposite side of the plant. When the sun is high in the sky, the room is filled with light from the skylight for about 2 hours, but since it is in the ceiling I wouldn't consider it direct sunlight (on the plant) Also, the bathroom is off of my bedroom, I have a west and an east window in there that makes it pretty bright thus helping the bathroom get even more light.

I will get a pic hopefully today, if not for sure tomorrow.

Just to experiment I bought a small oak leaf ivy in a 3" pot at the same time I bought the bigger one. I have it where my GF plant was sitting, (east exposure) I'm going to see which one does better. And If I loose one of them, I still have one. I don't usually do that but I am starting a plant collection for my sis and the small one was going to be hers, it still will if it survives.

I'll leave it there for now, if I see it starts to decline, I'll move it. Thans for all your help Toni.

Finally here is a picture, hopefully it will help everyone understand what I have been trying to say. As you can see it isn't a Grape Ivy, it's an Oak Leaf Ivy. Related?? I think so as both are Cissus. This is a Cissus Rhombiafolia (Ellen Danica)

I moved it from the bathroom (where it will set for now) just for the picture. Thanks Debi, (and thanks for all your help)

The seller had several auctions, titled grape/oak leaf ivy.
Of course I had to have one..it arrived today..it's not a grape ivy, it's oak leaf ivy..I'm happy. Walmart sometimes sells grape ivy's, and although they're beautiful, especially when mature and hanging in a sunny spot, I prefer oak leaf..
So let me know if you won your plant on Ebay.
The Oak Leaf won is big. I've got to dl new plant pics, haven't had time since I've been repotting. 3 days of repotting! lol..Try another picture..Toni

One more thing. Ppl have different concepts regarding light conditions..What one might deem 'x' window full sun, someone else might call it bright light.
There's confusion when ppl discuss light conditions. When I worked at Rentokil and Home Depot, customers would ask questions about light. Because a tag said, bright light, they jumped to the conclusion that plant needed desert sun. lol..NOT! Unless someone literally sees a room during the day, we can only assume.
See if your AV flowers. If it doesn't, then it's not because the area didn't have sufficient light. It could be your AV. Oversized pot, lack of fertlizers, etc. If your AV's potted in soil-less mix, it need more fertilizer than a plant potted in soil. Good luck..Toni

Hi Toni, I did some housekeeping on my photobucket page and didn't realize it would move them here too, oh well. Heres the pic.

No, I didn't get it from E-Bay, I got it from Home Depot no Lowes. I thought it was a Grape Ivy, that's what started this silly thread, after I got it I looked it up on line, it isn't a grape Ivy, it's the plant I wanted and I thought was a grape Ivy, but it's an Oak Leaf Ivy.

And it isn't in the bathroom, it's in my diningroom where it gets morning sun and bright light from a skylight. My whole house is "bright" with west windows on one side and east on the other side. I only have one window w/south exposure and it's in my guest room. I use it for my plant hospital. I have a bunch of bags of cuttings in there, away from the window, but lots of indirect light. I'm starting them all for my sister.

My AV has just went thru a major surgery. I cut her back, repotted her in a smaller pot, trimmed off her two babies and re potted them, All with help from a gal on the AV forum, she guided me thur the whole process step by step, so hopefully we will get some flowers soon.
