fake rock photos - quickwall/mesh or concrete/mesh
Comments (37)I'm so frustrated that I can't see the pictures of Laura's rocks! I think this technique is exactly what I've been searching for. I want to make a couple of fake stone chairs that will be similar in shape to beanbag chairs, but with rock markings. I think the wire armature will work for me. I'll build it, then put something under it and sit on it to make the seat indentation! Then I'll add the quickcrete. Based on reading lots of websites about hypertufa, I was thinking I'd have to make the concrete or tufa much thicker than you've made yours. Am I right in thinking it's the fibers in the initial layer of quickcrete that make your structure strong enough to hold 400 lbs w/o after the armature is removed?...See MoreHelp with owner/build pool?
Comments (2)thats a big pool. i would go with 1 pump for the spa 1 pump for the circulation and cleaner (suction cleaner) or u can go with a pressure cleaner( better solution) 1 pump for the waterfall my choice would be a 2 speed pump for circulation 2 skimmers should sufice Aquacal is propably the best heat pump out there right now for that size pool i would go with the biggest one SQ155. WHERE ARE U LOCATED? i am sure better qualified pool people will chime in pretty soon. good luck...See MoreBuilding a California pool in Kentucky
Comments (4)Given the desired size desired, that eliminates a fiberglass shell. They aren't big enough. There very few things you can't/shouldn't do with a liner pool that a gunite pool can do. If there aren't any gunite builders in the area, go with a liner. The tend to be, at least in my area, slightly less expensive too. With a sloped area, expect to have to cut into the land and build a retaining wall and drainage. Those will eat into your budget. I would also be concerned with hitting rock. Bedrock and boulders will need to be jack hammered and that will cost too. While a liner pool normally has 42" walls, the floor can be deeper. In fact, that is how the deep end hopper is designed. They use either smoothed cement or a vermiculite and portland cement mix to form the bottom and slopes that exceed the 42" depth. That which is above ground, such a grotto, won't matter to any pool as long as the proper footing is laid to support the weight. Thermoplastic slides are pretty standard fair and can be pretty darn long if you want. Scott...See MoreFake rock or prefab waterfalls for salt water pool?
Comments (3)I have done both with salt pools. If you use granite or other similarly hard rocks you will not have a problem. It is normally cheaper to use real rock than the prefab types and similar problems exist such as the white calcium line that builds up under hard water conditions. On prefab stone I've seen the color come off trying to remove the hard water deposits. Keep good water chemistry and you shouldn't have a problem. Your PB should be able to guide you to an acceptable rock if he is marginally experienced....See MoreCannaluver
