First one is some kind of palm -- I'm thinking a Kentia Palm, maybe? Second ones is a variegated sansevieria. Third one is probably a pachira. Definitely not an aloe whatever it is.

Are the first two in pots with drainage? They look like they're in mugs or somtehing.

The last one is definitely a Pachira...nice fat trunk on that one!
Those with the single fat trunk seem more inclined to survive than those with several braided trunks.

I don't think the palm is a Kentia, only because it's very doubtful you'd find one at a dollar store.
I think it may be a young Chamaedorea of some sort.

Arc, I third Pachira..a very nice Pachira/Money Tree. The trunk is amazing.
Care for palms..I really don't know which palm you have so the safest bet is placing your palm in medium, bright light. In an east window, or a few feet from west or south in summer.
As for Pachiras, I grow mine as a succulent, (less water, soil dries completely, underpotted, very bright to direct sun) but I think most people grow theirs as tropicals, (moister soil.)
Maybe someone will chime in, describe how they grow their Pachiras.

Amccour, they are kinda like mugs, little pots is how I like to describe them. LOL They have drainage holes and the little attached plate/cup catches the excess on em. Thank you everyone! I was starting to wonder if my black thumb would kill em before I could identify them.

Most of our dollar stores never sell plants, either, Toni, but I've seen/read that lots of folks have purchased plants there.

We have a Dollar General that occasionally does, but the plants aren't from Dollar General Corporation....they're from a store employee that has permission to sell them for some charity cause... (Donate X amount to this charity and receive this plant, that sort of thing)
I've never actually looked into it, as they're also 'common' plants that I'm not interested in purchasing.

Once in a blue moon, my local dollar store will have some plants. So will Big Lots. But it isn't anything one could count on.

Check the 99 cent store they always have plants for sale. Always overwatered, and only worth ab9out 10 cents, but still if you're looking for a common plant cheap, this is the place to go.

PS I'm sooo excited a Big Lots just opened up locally, but it's a bit more than the one about 60 miles away.

Hi I need some major help. I have small ficus trees indoors. I like them very much for their shape & prettiness. But I've bought altogether 6 of them, and they die very soon:
-I'm sure their was plenty of light,
-I did not over water them,
-I kept them inside during the freezing winter.
But eventually they die to the point where there's no one sign of life.
First with the turning brown, soft, & moist. Then the leaves all fall and the plant doesn't have a chance.
I really want to buy them to watch them grow and not just to kill them.
One thing I suspect it might be related. I have some tropical fish aquariuums.I always use the dirty fish feces water the plants. The plants seem to love it, they grow rapidly with alot of new leaves sprouting.
Then after a few more of watering fish water, the soil looks damp& rotting with flies flying around. Should I just use plain water?

Or did I make the soil too acidic?

It sounds like you are using too heavy of a soil. There are many wonderful discussions already about ficus. You can use the search to find them. It would not have been the aquarium water unless you use heavy chemicals, which is neither good for the fish or plants.

Are you sure? Mentha mentioned heavy soil which is a possibility..but even if you had used heavy soil, if it dried between waterings, where soil looked and felt crumbly, then you can say, I didn't overwater. :)

Unless the store you're purchasing Ficus from have diseased or buggy plants, the problem lies on your end.
How do Ficus look when you first bring them home?
Do you inspect leaves, stems and branches? And how long do they last before dying?

Ficus are fussy plants..They dislike change. Some leaf drop is normal, but not an entire plant.
If you buy another or more, try duplicating their care at the nursery. Ficus are sun lovers, a south or west window is fine. Water thoroughly, but let soil dry between drinks. Pots should have drainage holes, so water drains freely, not sit in water for long periods. Don't overpot. In you transplant from one pot to another, increase 1-2 sizes higher. In some cases plants don't need larger pots.
Wait a while before fertilizing. I noticed more and more nurseries are adding timed-release ferts in soil.
You mentioned keeping Ficus outdoors in summer. Although they'll survive in cool temps, (45F) if you wait too long to bring Ficus indoors, they take longer to adapt to a warm, dry house. Mid-Sept is about the right time to bring indoors, depending where you live. Good luck, Toni

I don't know about the 4th one, I've only seen the multi-trunked braided Money Tree.

The .99 store near me (right on my way home from work, yeah that's trouble) usually has tons of plants (although for some reason the last week or so they haven't had anything but the remnants of the last shipment). During the summer they get succulents/cacti, a lot I haven't seen in any other stores around here. I even lucked into a couple of crested ones.
