how to get rubarb leaves off cast leaf?
Comments (8)Thanks Billie...also for responding on Accoutrements...I agree, it'd be easier for those of us who do assorted things with cement to all be in one place! I used one Portland, one sand, one perlite. But now I have seen that just Portland and sand is more traditional and I will do this on next batch. I did hypertufa leaves last year and they were very lumpy! I didn't reinforce and many larger ones broke. These I just finished I did w. tape and did a bit thicker. They are not stepping stones but curved and for ornaments. I am going to do some stepping stones though. Now I am going to put in here how I finally got the stems and veins off. Billy probably saw it on Accoutrements but if anybody is searching for this on Hypertufa I want to share how well it worked!! To get the stem and veins off: I peeled the leaf pieces off...times consuming but do-able. Then I worked at the stems and veins with little success. I decided to try a hard steam of water with a hose. And it does work! I have a tool (pointed screwdriver) and aim a pretty hard stream of water at the end of the vein. The end lifts and using the pointed tool to keep things going I continue to use the stream of water and yay! The stems and veins come out pretty easily. thank you Billie for all your attention Whew! Comments (14)Becky, I used Patio Paint thinned a little with water. Painted it green, then dabbed it little with amber/yellow. Paws, I used the cement/sand topping mix for 5 leaves. All of them broke except the one in the photo. I'm sure the first 2 broke because the cement had began to get hard in the sack and I used it anyway. I don't know why the last 2 broke unless I didn't let them set long enough. They were Ok until I picked them up and set them on the garage floor. A couple hours later my husband told me one had broken in two at the center vein and the other broke into several pieces....See MoreNeed Help ASAPSidewalk question re how much grass to leave
Comments (3)If you have a dry basement you can leave the patch of earth for a garden, but the more impermeable surface that gets added the more likely you will have water problems. Rain and runoff have to go somewhere. While it may drain towards the street mostly, you ARE going to get more moisture from the additional concrete....See MoreAspidistra (Cast Iron plant) leaves turning yellow one by one
Comments (24)I am delighted to announce that both the original aspidistra plant and the offshoot I planted in a different pot are exhibiting new growth. For the record, I put them in a north facing window where they receive light but not direct light, give them one cup of water every 12-13 days, and left them alone. It seems July is the growing season for these plants, because it is also around this time last year that they put out new leaves. As for your yellowing Sans2014, I'm not sure what's causing it but I did find a pretty good site here where they may answer your question: http://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/aspidistra From reading that site, it seems your problem could be caused by too cold temps (unlikely in July), too frequent repotting, or most likely overwatering. I water mine every 12-13 days and this is in July in Las Vegas, where temps in my apartment can reach 90 if i turn the A/C off before going to work. If you leave in a cooler climate, I wouldn't water it more than every two weeks, maybe even less....See Morebutterflybush
