Almond Trees Lush, But Not Fruiting

We have two almond trees in our yard, separated by about 150 feet. One was here when we moved in 5 years ago, and the other we planted three years ago. The one we planted is -- I think -- a nonpareil.

For three years in a row, the older tree has produced very thick harvests of large delicious almonds, and the one we planted gave us two years of very good crops. Last year, the older tree produced only a few flowers, and just a handful of nuts, even though its foliage seems healthy. We thought that maybe a lull in productivity might be normal, so we thought we'd wait and see. Unfortunately, the same thing happened this year.

This year, the younger tree tree produced a tremendous volume of blossoms, and most of them started to bud out into young fruit. However, mysteriously, the fruit have almost completely disappeared, although the tree itself is growing very thick and green.

We have plenty of honeybees in the neighborhood, and our peach, apricot, pear, apple, and plum trees all seem to be healthy and fruiting well.

Is there any good explanation for this sudden lack of production on two otherwise healthy trees?
