For the most part I prune them, dig them up leaving as much of a "root ball" as I can and "package" them up with a note, if I know the variety, some sure start planting fertilizer and I put them on my curb with a FREE sign. I've always had takers. My best taker turned out to be a friend who knew a family that lost their mother and they were planting a memorial garden for her. Since then, I always give them first chance before I put them out on the curb. I've done this with some calla lilies that I put out with the caveat at how invasive they can become so I didn't have to feel bad if they took over. They knew what they were getting. I've had some monster roses from the previous owner that in order to get them out I had to cut down to the ground and dig out but that is the price I had to pay to get roses in the ground that I picked.

I would paint it out. I am not so allergic to it, but my DH is. We use old track pants with socks, longsleeve shirt, gloves and over the gloves a sock with the fingers cut out (and a thumb hole) to protect wrists. I use total kill mixed with a sticker like Dr. Bronners soap and paint it on the poison ivy leaf very carefully.

I have used the waffle liner stuff, which I usually pick up at Big lots they have it in all colors, and also the sheets of foam board the real thin ones you can even get it at walmart in the crafts area. I need that drop stop so bad I have had that happen with my keys and like to never got them out of there. I was at Sears last weekend and in the tool dept they had a big display in the middle of the aisle of items that were really inexpensive and one of the items was an extend-able magnet, looked like a long pointer thing that pulls out and has a magnet on the tip. That thing definitely is in my tool box now and it was only a buck or so.

The common yellow oxalis we have here has tiny "bulbules" (sp?), which lurk 12 -18 inches under the ground. You can easily pull up the plants, of course, but those tiny bulb things stay under the soil, and up it comes again. I once had a gardener who decided to eradicate it from a flower bed which is about 12 feet long and 6 feet wide. He actually dug up the top 2 feet of soil, and sifted it by hand to get all of the tiny bulbs out. That worked for the first year, but by 2-3 years after he did that, back the oxalis came. So, being lazy, what I do is just admire it in the Spring, except where it is trying to smother other plants. Then just pull it out around those plants. By late Spring here it has died down, and I pretend it is gone. Of course, it comes up again the next Spring. It is one of our first blooming plants to bloom (starts Jan/Feb), so I just regard it as such and let it be mostly. One of my cats likes to eat it (we used to eat it as children - we called it "sour grass"). Jackie
