Most have red flowers, but also come in pink & white.

Are you planning on growing in- or outdoors? If indoors, there shouldn't be any problem as far as heat. They like natural warmth, but gas heat is another thing.

Anthuriums prefer bright light, but no direct summer sun. In winter, (if grown indoors) the brightest window will do.

They prefer being slightly rootbound, so don't overpot. Anthuriums need acidic, well-draining soil. Soil should dry between waterings, (slightly.) If rootball sits in water it will rot.
Anthuriums dote on humidity. There are many ways to increase moisture in the air.

Fertilizing is best done while plant is growing, not dormant.

Yes, it's an Anthurium, and it's going to be indoors. I've just heard that they don't do well in cold weather...

The heat here at night is turned down to between 62-64 degrees, sleeping temperatures.

I don't do anything special with this plant. It gets indirect light, south/west exposure, keeping the soil a little on the moist side, both like Toni suggested.

I wouldn't go below 60F/16C myself. They're not cool-temperature plants, and you really can't force them to be.

I have one at work, where we also turn down the thermostat in the evening during winters.
I know it gets to at least 60º Fahrenheit, and I'm almost positive it's gotten lower than that on some evenings and weekends, though their soil was, more often than not, on the 'dry side'.

I think they're OK to dip to temps between 50-60º for short periods of time, but I think Mrsubj's theory on 60º is a good 'rule of thumb'.

The best way to figure out what temps they can absolutely tolerate is to research where they originate, and what the average low temperature is there.

I'd like to add that although we're led to believe they're low-light plants, that's not so indoors if you wish for them to really thrive and bloom.
Mine at home are happiest about a foot or two from my south window.

I agree Anthuriums need sun to bloom. Not direct, summer south or west, unless the window is shaded by sheer curtains, (if afternoon sun aims at plants for hours,) but very briht light.
Since my Anthuriums were relocated to a shadier spot, they stopped blooming. They are going back to their original spot.

I doubt 50F would kill an Anthurium, but it'd probably slow down growth, let alone flowers.
We all hear, read, 'plants should be kept out of drafts.'
IMO, that is the most misleading concept ever.

What is a draft? Breeze, when temps are 80F? or cold wind, when temps are in the 30's?

When we bring plants out in summer, they get all sorts of 'drafts.' From every direction.
This statement is written and rewritten in numerous plant books.

A plant will adapt to 50F degrees, IF soil is kept on the dry side. Even as low as 40F, depending on the plant.
However, if outdoor temps are in the 20's, oh yes, that over-used word 'draft' will cause frostbite and/or death. But when outdoor temps are 60 and up, a breeze will not cause harm. In fact, plants appreciate a burst of fresh air.

Since Anthuriums are tropical, they require natural warmth, humidity and bright light. If one can parrot a tropical atmosphere, you got it licked..Toni

Thank you for all the advice. I will keep my plant in the warmest part of the house that I can think of, and hopefully it will survive! I'm feeling quite optimistic though, as many people are saying it can survive less than 50 degrees :)
