Squash vine borer?

I pulled one of my three zucchini plants (sitting next to three yellow squash) because of dying-off leaves. None of the others have stopped producing or looks bad (aside from some powdery leaves and squash bugs).

I don't know why this one plant died off. I looked at the vine, it was hollow. I split it, looking for grubs or other sign of insects inside. Nothing.

Are zucch vines normally hollow? Did I have borers but just didn't see them? If so, why aren't they killing my other plants? I'm confused. (I still have the plant, so I can re-inspect based on suggestions...Thanks!
