The great squash sacrifice.

Every year I try to grow zucchini to no avail. This year I tried again with 2 varieties AND first ever yellow squash. So far I have been overloaded on zucchini! I mean I am really picking a lot! But the yellow squash grows to about 3 or 4" and simply disappears! I investigated today and all under and around the yellow squash leaves is a load of raccoon scat! Now if I get rid of the yellow squash will that mean the raccoons will attack the zukes? Should I just make this sacrifice to the Raccoon God and be done with it? That space takes up valuable real estate that I could get fall crops started on. Any advice? /Abi
