I lost one of the three blooms already but the other two look good so far and will probably flower in the next couple nights? Last time I did not loose them until after they flowered but this time I lost the one before. I am trying to keep it out of the rain while still allowing it to get direct sunlight which involves putting it under the patio cover everytime it starts to rain. Unfortunately this is a difficult task lately with it raining 6-10 hours of every day here! Thanks again!

Susana, The cuttings seem to root real easy. Looking at my recent cuttings, the one simply stuck in the ground next to a stake in very full intense sun has already sent up new growth while two other cuttings from the same plant located in a pot and a bright but shadey area show no signs of growth. Just dig a small hole and place them in and support them with a stake of some sort. check out them scented geraniums in the background. Its amazing too see them thriving in this heat when I couldnt even keep them alive in the recent past

I have cuttings from one source on eBay of Red & White DF, both H.u. and of Yellow S.m. from one eBay source and cuttings from a Yellow H.u. from another eBay source. Also, I have red & white H.u. seeds plus yellow S.m. seeds from an Asian source. And, I have orange DF seeds from Hawaii which are S.m. Problem is no one seems to know what they have except it is either red or white flesh or yellow skinned (S.m.) with white flesh or orange skin (S.m.) with red flesh. So, no fancy names. But with such diversity and cross pollination are there any "true" heirloom specie left? And I have no idea whether the are self or hand pollinated DF. Probably no way to tell huh? Even after they fruit, if they ever do? I am definitely a newbie with DF and am wondering if I should plant two or more of the same kind in a pot or mix specie? I hate to mix specie in one pot (ie red & white) as I won't know which is which until I open the fruit and I want to know well before that. If you have a red and a white in close proximity and they cross pollinate, will you possibly end up with pink fruit? How do you keep the red ones red and the white ones white if you raise both varieties near each other? And what about mixing the H.u. with the S.m.? Will they cross pollinate and if so, what is the outcome? Sorry for all the questions, but surely I am not the only one new that has these questions..... Bob, in central Florida

Yes, depends on cultivars. Most that are described as red or white are Hylocereus undatus species or various crosses of them. Most red flesh producing cultivars usually need cross pollination but there are some that are self fertile. The yellow variety mention is usually the Selenicereus megalanthus with yellow skin fruits, although there is a yellow skin H. undatus.
