Brown Spots and Wilting Leaves on Blueberry Bushes
Comments (5)The brown areas sort of look like what is happening to a few of mine.I hope it's not. This stuff spreads like a plague.I'm leaning towards bacterial canker that is on my plants. Has it been rainy in your location recently?I think it is distributed that way. I had to cut away a lot from one plant and still don't know if it is going to survive. Here is a link to some photos. Comments (7)I got plastic 3 ft. x 15 ft. fencing from Home Depot. Comes in a roll. I cut it to 1 1/2 ft. high stips and anchored it with metal Home Depot things that look like croquet hoops. All it took was 1 1/2 ft. high barrier and rabbits have not bothered my blueberries. I also had luck with wrapping the plastic bird netting around the base of the bushes to keep the rabbits away. I hear aluminum foil also works well....See MoreBush beans leaves being eaten
Comments (4)John, we simply don't have enough information to be of much assistance to you, and the picture isn't going to help. About all we can do is come up with a list of possibilities and then let you be your own detective. First of all, ants are not high on the list of suspects. Though fire ants can and do damage plants, they are more likely to attack ripe fruit or very young seedlings. Most ant species don't bother plants at all. If you are observing a lot of ants on the plants, perhaps you also have an infestation of aphids, which are also plant pests but do not chew pieces of leaves. Typical culprits would be beetles of various species, slugs, snails, earwigs, sowbugs/pillbugs, caterpillars, and weevils. Some are MUCH more likely than others, and I've probably overlooked some of the possibilities. A good time to investigate the plant is after dark, with a flashlight....See MoreBlueberry bushes chewed on over winter, will I still get blueberries?
Comments (5)I fight this battle every year, and do pretty well until late winter. Rabbits love to eat young blueberry branches. of course, blueberries usually only produce on 1-3 year old wood, so you may get some fruit, but without some chicken wire or something around the plants, your harvests will always be severely limited....See Moretspitzer
