Are the plants in the ground or in pots?

Mixing peat moss into the soil will lower the pH pretty quickly. Adding garden sulfur is easier, but it takes several months for the pH to drop.

I'd use sulfur, and make sure the plants are mulched with some kind of organic mulch, like compost or wood chips. As long as there is a lot of organic matter on top, the pH is not so critical to their survival, although they may not produce well until the pH is lower.

You can find bags of sulfur at a lot of garden centers. I also see it at Home Depot and Lowes in the garden section with the garden fertilizers. Directions on the bag will tell you how much to use.

Other items: Bloodmeal, cottonseed meal, pine needles made great mulch. Sphagnum peat moss worked great the first year to drop the pH. I too am using sulfur this year. I picked up a bag of PMI Bradfield Acid Adoring fertilizer to feed my berries.

Alex- they were already planted in the ground. So I apply garden sulfur on top of the ground? Or do I have to dig it out and apply it? How much are they? Peat moss and garden sulfur. I might would have to buy peat moss and put it in ground to mix because I'll get cranberry.

Nhardy- where do I find pine needles? I never see these in stores also cottonseed as well but I have seen bloodmeal. What about Holly- Espoma?

Where to find pine needles: answer under a pine tree. Just grab a rake. The neighbor next door does not mind me cleaning up & taking them. One man's yard waste is another man's mulch. And they are FREE!! (Sorry I could not help it. The other thread on coffee grounds had me LOL too.) I have the brand Hi-yield for the meals. The Fertilome website has a store locator. You can call the store & see if they have the meals & lawn sulfur. Our local feed store has them. I would have to read the Espoma Holly bag to see the active ingredients. Espoma has a acidfier one. Try that one instead of the Holly.

A 5 pound bag of garden sulfur is 8 or 9 dollars. To get pH 6.5 soil down to pH 5.0 takes 3 pounds of sulfur per 100 square feet, according to the bag. You can spread it on top of the soil and maybe scratch it in with a garden rake. If you're going to put mulch on the ground around the plants, put the sulfur down first.

Nhardy- I don't have pine trees around here but different kind of evergreen trees. Will they do fine? Haha I wish I can get free if I know where and who. Espoma Holly is for fertilize but would it help too. I already bought acidifier. I am planning to apply on blueberry bushes.

Alex- if I buy 5lbs bag then fill it on 5 sq ft, will it help a lot or it is too much? Instead a few cups and spread over 5 sq ft?

I'm not sure what kind of evergreen trees you have. Our magnolia tree is an evergreen but the leaves are hard to grind up with the mower. They are not as acidic as pine needles. No parks with pine trees in your area? That is so sad. Well you can always pick up a bag of mini pine bark nuggets for the mulch. Please stay away from cypress mulch. It did not let the water though to my dogwood tree after the first year. It compacted. I'm not sold on Holly-tone for the blueberries.

Nhardy- me too, I have to check what kind they are. They probably are cedar. That's why my school is called cedar crest. So, I hope they sell in stores. I see, okay thanks for let me know. What do you usually use fertilize? Bradfield Acid Adoring? Is it good?

Last year I used the sphagnum peat moss, pine needle for mulch, cottonseed meal & blood meal. I feed them almost all nitrogen with very little phosphorus & potassium. This year I added more pine needles. To keep the pH down more evenly, I'm using the sulfur & feeding the berries Bradfield which has more a little more phosphorus & potassium. I have to said that the Bradfield Adoring is one of the best smelling fertilizers. Almost good enough to eat. I hope the berries think so too.
