a have a bunch of 1 year bulbs. 2 year has small usable clovesÂin other words these are for planting, not eating. in fact the small cloves should be divided and put back in the ground when the greens die to produce the large clove you would normally use for cooking. while you are waiting for the big cloves, cut and use the hard neck like you would a green onion. i use the necks more than the cloves in my cooking during the growing season. if you like cooking with garlic, you won't ever use the white grocery store soft neck variety again.

i do have a limited number of 2nd and even 3 year cloves if you have something really great or large to warrant the extra postage on my endÂnot that i am stingy, but the postage for the cloves is double what it cost for the 1yr bulbs and it can add up fast.

just an update. i have been told that this rare garlic does best if in places with a cold winter and cool spring. i grow it in utah. we certainly have a cold winter but spring is short if present at all and summer is very hot. it does great here. if you are luck enough to live in a place that has no truely cold winter, i think you can still grow Rocambole garlic. rather than planting it in fall, put it in the crisper or even the freezer for a few months then plant mid winter. i would think this would do the trick. for those up north, you should have much better success with this type of garlic than the white softnecks.

newbie here too - planted today!! I bought from wegrowgarlic because I could order a single bulb if I wanted. Once we figure out what will grow/what we like, I can buy 1/2lb or more. The bulbs seemed wonderful!! Not a single rotten one; all firm. I had prepped my two rows Friday. Lotsa good stuff mixed with nasty clay. Saturday morning, I munched up straw and grass clippings. Saturday evening, my kids spread the mulch everywhere and I had difficulty finding the improved rows. Although I know I should wait two years to plant, I prepped for planting today. I popped the bulbs and placed the cloves into baggies - 14 varieties. I then labeled the baggies 1-14. I tried to plant one clove of each variety in numerical order. Repeat. I grabbed 3-4 bags at one time, assuming they were in numerical order. Mind you, my 23mo was supervising. I thought I had baggie #9 in my hand and looked down to read #4!! UGH. So much for my attempt at a map. Then I watered well. I'll add crushed leaves to the mulch as soon as my trees drop them.

I bought some garlic from WGG last year, they have very reasonable prices and good quality. I have been waiting impatiently for a few months to see when they will start taking orders for this year! dcarch: I would suggest using an Asiatic variety such as Korean Mountain or Asian Tempest for making black garlic. The Asiatic varieties are generally short storing which is probably why the black garlic curing/aging process was invented in the first place. A Turban variety might make a good substitute if you can't find any Asiatics.

I do not have aquatic plants. Do have red plants...have Cardinal Climber vine, Noah Morning Glory, Lady in Red Salvia, etc. I have Heirloom Tomato seeds to go with your garlic.

I would be happy to send postage to defray the additional postage expense the garlic will require.

Would you mind looking at my list to see if you like anything? Otherwise, I would like a mixture, even 1 of each, if you'd rather. I'm just getting started with gardening and I don't need much.
